Phosphatidylserine: a stimulant with fewer sides?

Anybody try using phosphatidylserine as an upper/nootropic?

Phosphatidylserine is not marketed as a stimulant. It is best known as a anti-cortisol supplement for athletes. The idea is that it blunts the post-workout cortisol spike to improve recovery. That's why I originally ordered it. It's a clumpy brown powder that tastes like cardboard and the typical dose is around 400mg. Unfortunately I have no way to measure my cortisol levels so I lost interest in that particular application.

There are some studies that indicate that phosphatidylserine is useful for treating ADD/ADHD in children, as well as quite a few anecdotal reports online. This caught my attention, because drugs that help with ADD are almost always uppers of some kind.

The way I look at it, it's pretty useful to have some kind of a stimulant in your arsenal, even if it's just caffeine. They can have some rough side effects though. Caffeine in sufficient doses makes me euphoric, focused, talkative, and motivated. It also kills my appetite, makes me very anxious, and has me running to the bathroom every 15 minutes. I can't really use it at work because the anxiety is that bad. I'm almost always on a bulking diet and it screws up my eating schedule.

I had been taking phosphatidylserine occasionally at around 500mg, without noticing much effect. So, I tried it at 1,000-1,300 milligrams. Got most of the good effects of caffeine without the undercurrent of anxiety or the digestive issues. No effect on the appetite at all. I was crushing shit at work stocking a large delivery, and was more social with the customers. I'm usually friendly to people but now I was a chatty motherfucker. Usually at work I don't have the energy to spit game to the cute female customers, but I was on fire. Afterwards I crushed my workout at the gym and then hit the road on my bike to check out some new bars in the next county over. It was an hour to last call and there were hardly any girls out but I opened some mixed groups and just had a good time in general without having to get hammered. Destroyed this fat chick at pool who brought her own pool stick from home.

It's not often that I feel motivated to go out solo on a Thursday night, but after a great day at work flirting with girls and being social I wanted more.

The next day I felt pretty dead and retarded. What goes up must come down.

I've been messing with this supplement off and on for about a year, haven't noticed any bad effects. I don't usually take a gram though. Not sure I would recommend doing that much all the time. Wikipedia says the daily max is 600mg a day for the elderly, not sure what it is for healthy men.

If I take it pre-workout, even at lower amounts, I usually have a pretty good workout. However, there isn't much solid evidence in the way of studies that show it improves athletic performance.

Curious to see if anyone else has even heard of this stuff or can shed some light on how it works. I'd recommend giving it a try if you have trouble with caffeine killing your appetite or making you anxious.

Not tried it, but I use stimulants all the time for fat loss. I tend to stick to caffeine + ephedra (potentiates caffeine) + suntheanine (relieves anxiety). Have a look into kanna or kava kava, both great stimulants for socialising.

Thanks Valentine. I'll check that stuff out. Kava kava in particular sounds interesting. Is there a brand you recommend?

I was looking for more info on phosphatidylserine doses; there's guys on here taking up to 2,000 mg:
