I go by the East Asian system of going by birth year. I'm in my early 40s too and I also try to run "30s" game where applicable. I don't generally tell girls my age but if they ask will say "guess" and then when they say 35. 36, etc. I tell them "very close, you are sooo perceptive" etc.

My youngest have been two 21-year olds when I was 41 and also got a drunken hj from a 19 year old when I was 40. So I guess the 20-year age gap seems to be my sweet-spot

I had ZERO luck dating younger women back in the US though, and the age difference was never more than 7-8 years and I felt like even that raised eyebrows...here in Russia I think since so many guys don't make it past 50 they just assume you aren't all that old if you are actually alive!
