Date Idea - Mixing Cocktails at the Beach

I'm going to be giving this a go.

The trouble with most alcohol is that it tastes terrible. Part of the reason that bars seem so great is that cocktails taste good, and that's the reason we pay high school dropouts a premium when they make us a Cosmo or something.

Now, most liquor stores have a selection of small bottles of alcohol. And I mean small - 50ml. You can get triple sec, peach schnapps, everything you need for whatever cocktails you can put together. The local Wine World even has a huge selection of generics for 99c each, which is all you need.

So, bring a little cooler with a mixing cup and plenty of ice, a few different kinds of juice, and stock up your 'liquor cabinet'.

Have a few drinks in mind to buy your liquor appropriately:

Cosmopolitan

1 shot vodka
1/3 shot triple sec
dribble of sweetened lime juice
2/3 shot cranberry juice

Pour over ice, shake in mixing cup, pour out into a martini glass (probably a plastic cup on the beach really). Serve with lemon wedge. (You can skip this on the beach.)

2/3 shot vodka
1/3 shot peach schnapps
orange juice
cranberry juice

Pour over ice and serve. Throw a cherry in there if you're feeling dandy.

So let's say the drink menu included these two drinks. You'd probably want to make one of each for both of you to get her nice and lubed up, so you'll need at least 4 shots of vodka; you can get a 200ml bottle of that. You'll also need at least one shot of peach schnapps and one of triple sec. I'd bring some other tasty bits along for the ride, so you can wing it with some off-the-cuff creations of your own.

Don't let some high school dropout steal the show. Be your own bartender for your own sexy customer, save a few bucks, and give her a date experience she's never had before.

I like the idea of the bringing small bottles. You get the benefits of selection without the weight.

I don't have a beach near me, but there are several parks. I plan to get a bocci set for dates in the park. I will try your mobile bar idea.

Good idea.

My only worry is although lakeshore in Chi would be perfect for this, the laws for public drinking in the US are loco. Don't wana get my arse deported for having a bev on the beach.

Would wok great anywhere else

I'm not going to knock your post, but I am going to heavily critique it.

Wrong. The reason that bars are great is because you are being served by people that can make you something fancy but also can make you just about anything WAY faster and better tasting than your average shmo. Whether they graduated high school or not has nothing to do with it, that's just elitism. The staff is usually attractive, and there is music, people socializing, basically it's a party (whether subdued or crazy).

THAT is what you're paying a premium for.

THIS is good advice. You can have a decently stocked bar and then supplement it with some cool alcohols in very small sizes so that you don't have to spend a lot of dough and can still make a unique/cool cocktail in a pinch.

You should already have a home bar stocked with a decent selection. You should get plastic flasks (or even better, some metal flasks that look nicer) and already have your alcohol in those. Ice, flasks, and a simple mixer. This can be as simple as a bottle of sprite, cranberry juice, etc...

The right time to go for the fancy cocktail is when you're at home with your well stocked bar and you have the time and she can watch your effortless and masterful preparation of your drinks. This idea that you "you can wing it with some off-the-cuff creations of your own" while at the beach is misguided. At the beach, at the park, you need to stick to simple. What most people don't understand is that simple drinks can taste just as good as complicated drinks. Logistics are more important than fancyness when you're outdoors.

For example, drinking is illegal in MANY places on the beach or in a park. You'd be really well served buying some soda from a takeout place so you've got a mixer and ice already right there. You just toss in some alcohol and you're set. Or you can get some coffee mugs with lids and make your cocktails on the beach in those so that when you're drinking them or walking around it's not glaringly obvious what you're doing.

If you're going to go fancy and want to be bold, get a bottle of good wine (or shitty fruity tasting wine like Stella Rosa) and find some decent looking disposable cups (or go baller and bring wine glasses if you dare) and go somewhere secluded. She will think you're classy and you won't be sitting there looking like a jackass trying to create an off the cuff creation.

Another thing she'd be impressed by is having tasty snacks to munch on. Some strawberries or other simple bite-size fruits, some pre-sliced cheese and crackers (to go with wine), etc...

Lastly, if you go to the beach at sunset, bring a warm blanket and a big towel to sit on, or some kind of sweatshirt for the girl. They always get cold. A warm tipsy girl is a happy girl.

Agree with above. go with wine, if she's going to the park with you, you should be fucking her if you play it right with a bottle of wine. Go for cocktails, only if you have a trailerable Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville blender.
