The Useful Travel Sites and Inspiration Thread

I'll respect it if Roosh wants to squash this thread because of too many outgoing links, but I thought it would be helpful to start a thread where guys link to other travel related websites that they use for both practical and inspirational purposes.

I'll start. I haven't traveled in a few years, and so my current sources are mostly inspirational with some practicality mixed in. And I've linked to many them elsewhere, but here they are:

http://www.citydailyphoto.com/portal/

Collections of street level photos of a very large selection of cities around the world, taken by amateurs. A new photo for each city each day. I find it difficult to otherwise find enough good photos of cities to get even a superficial feel for them. Commercial photos don't cut it.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/

Pretty much unbeatable for all things living, traveling and working in the USA.

http://www.hobotraveler.com/blogger.html

This guy has been perpetually travelling for 12 years, living off of the ad-sense income from his blog. You can learn a lot from him. Not your typical liberal/hippy traveler either. He's sort of a conservative mid-western guy.

http://locationlessliving.com/

JMB's blog. One of the guys on the forum who actually lives the locationless lifestyle.

http://travelvice.com/

The author, Craig, also reads Roosh's blog and posts here sometimes. But since he's had a kid, he hasn't posted much. I think one post in the past year or so. But his archives are great for learning a lot.

http://www.cruisersforum.com

If you want to live on a boat

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/

A poker forum with a surprisingly large and useful travel forum. Not nearly as personal or as good as Roosh's though. A lot of Poker players live the location-less lifestyle, which is why the travel forum is so active, I suppose.

http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/ - Department of State background notes about each country. Provides some basic information about the country, including entry/exit requirements (which, however, only make sense if you have only U.S. citizenship as they otherwise may be different), Embassy addresses and so on. I'm sure you all know about it, just wanted to be in the list so it is completed.

http://inyourpocket.com/ - free "in your pocket" city guides in PDF format. Covers only cities from European countries. For those cities I've been in the guides are quite accurate, and provide a lot of useful information. The list of clubs/restaurants/nightlife places to visit should be taken with the grain of salt though as it is not 100% complete, and some good places seem to be skipped intentionally. So if you're completely new for the city, it makes sense to visit a couple of listed places, befriend some locals and learn from them what other good places are around. Good coverage for Eastern Europe cities.

I'm listing this site largely for the 200+ videos this guy has on Vimeo. Just follow one of the many links through his blog. Background: A 30 year old German pays and plays his way through Southeast Asia, on a pharmaceutical industry budget. The videos will keep you inspired and motivated, if your not aware of the quality that can be had throughout that region. Also, try to find the blog post about a the guy who tells the story about how a trip to Angeles City ruined his marriage of and those of a lot of his friends. If its true, its too funny.

Yes its mostly a p4p centric site, but thats what most guys do when they go that region anyway. Don't hate. I think he says that his ratio is 75% p4p and 25% freebie. If you go where English is widely spoken, then your non p4p ratio should go way up.

I like travelpod.com for reading random people's blog posts about a place where I'm gonna travel. The site is very good because there's lot of bloggers meaning lots of info and pictures. Minimap function is also very nice wher you can track the writer's journey and see if there are other places that he or she went that might interest you.
