I have been doing Bikram Yoga, aka hot yoga, for about a week now. My sister has been telling me for months to start trying it out and I finally took a class.
My first class was hell, I couldn't take the heat or smell. The poses weren't too terrible but it definitely wasn't a pleasant experience overall.
One week and five classes later, it is like crack to me. I can't get enough.
After I do morning yoga I feel very pleasant and peaceful all day. In general I am a very energetic person but yoga has completely mellowed me out. Nothing phases me anymore and I have a sense of serenity that I've never quite experienced.
Most of the physical activities I've taken in the past or present have been aggressive aerobic/anaerobic exercises (Football, Jiujitsu, Fencing, Muay Thai). Yoga is unlike anything I've ever done and it is probably more challenging than I ever could have imagined it being.
I am hooked and can't wait to get back. I'd like to study the science behind what is happening to my body - apparently Bikram yoga is good for purging your body of toxins and stimulating organs.
If there are any yogis out there who could shed a light on the health benefits and science of yoga, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
If anyone knows anything specifically about fat loss I"d like to know about that.
