Canary Islands. Anyone been?

Recently I've wanted to visit the Canary Islands.

Does anyone here know much about these islands, where to go, what to avoid, etc? I searched but didn't find anything except a few threads with a couple snippets (hot girls, blah blah blah) and thegmanifesto asking for data sheets or suggesting it as a travel location.

I have wanted to visit the Canary Islands for awhile. I was in contact with someone there about a year ago. If you live there, rents have gone down significantly since the economic collapse. I am not sure about tourist rentals.

The Canary Islands have the best climate on the planet, because of the trade winds blowing in from Africa. The climate there is better than Southern California. There are also plenty of micro-climates on the islands because of different wind and tide patterns.

Be aware that southern Gran Canaria (one of the two main islands) is one of the largest gay destinations in Europe. I also seem to recall that there are two different tourist seasons. The Brits and Germans typically visit the islands during a different period than the mainland Spaniards.

You are correct that there is very little web information on the Canary Islands, but I read a few books on them a few years back. At least four publishing companies publish travel guides on the Canary Islands. Check out Amazon. I need to get to the Canary Islands.

I know there are some decent surf there, but lots of localism. Next winter I'll try go there with my friends instead of morocco for surfing.

Many europeans want to retire there. Myself included. It´s officially rated as the best climate in the world. Hope I will have the money to live there.

Yeah, I have been very interested in this place as well.

I think the forum is woefully deficient on information for the Canary Islands.

I would love to see a good sheet.

I've been a couple of times. I could drop something but not sure if I have the time to compose it before I go to NYC next week.

In short, tons of Scandinavians. Everything is focused around resorts and hotels so logistics will make or break you. It's mainly charter tourists so don't expect a very classy crowd.

I've been a few times when I was younger.

However, if you were looking for some easy kills and you are already spending the money, then I would suggest Majorca. East of Spain
Santa Ponsa and Magaluf being the places the younger Europeans go.

The Canary Islands are beautiful and the climate is superb however the party atmosphere pales in comparison to Santa Ponsa/Magaluf.
A lot of localism in the islands and a lot of Africans trying to make a dime off unsuspecting tourists, whether through force or guile.

My last stay I was in Puerto Rico on the Island of Gran Canaria , in my hotel there was mostly families and a few young couples.
Further up the road, I remember seeing a large group of girls in a cheaper Hotel from the UK and the Scandinavian countries.
I visited a hotel that I stayed at when I was much younger (Good Memories) and was surprised to see the place full with locals with no tourists around, the males were quite protective and tried to play Alpha when I was about.

There are a number of strip clubs and regular clubs which end around 3 or 4 I think.
Alcohol was cheap and many clubs were doing promotions and such.

Playa de Ingles and Maspalomas were about 20-30 euro to get to in a taxi.
However public transport was constantly improving and unless you were motivated you could spend your time in Puerto Rico easily.

Now, I don't remember the name of the water park, but it was the best place for some decent women. Again, a lot of locals were here too but seemed more open to the Pale Skin invaders, even welcoming.
