Why are so many people PC?

Nice thread brahs !

Political correctness and "niceness" is the easiest way for people to gain acceptance, validation and get on the moral high ground to judge other people.

That is it ! It "feels" good to be PC because it makes people seem superior to non-PC people.

Politeness : if there ever was a mediocre man's virtue, that would be it !

There is nothing admirable about being PC or Polite. It requires no effort, no talent, no skill , no charity, no sacrifice. You just have to say/not say certain things.

Most people are PC or "nice" because they are afraid not to be. Why ? because they are losers and that is the only redeeming quality they have.

Just like all the "nice guys" who complain about being sooooo nice but girls goin for douchebags.

The reason they are nice is not because they have pure and genuine intentions. They wanna bury their dick in a chicks ass just like the rest of us.

But they are losers, they are not in shape, no interesting, not confident, not smart , not popular ... so the only way they can seem superior to people who actually have those qualities is to NOT be offensive.

Same thing with PC people. Majority of people are losers or mediocre. It is a way for them to feel better than people who actually accomplish something in life. And that feeling is addictive .

That is why they get so butthurt and angry when someone like me is non-PC.

They are not really butthurt or angry. They just wanna feel that rush of finally for once in their pathetic life ... that feeling of being moraly superior to someone.

Once they do they feel happy. ANd 5 minutes later when a beggar asks for some change, instead of giving him aquarter, they give him a dirty look and go about their day.

I HATE HATE HATE HATE Political correctness.

Makes sense. Like I said in that Portland thread, it seems like hipsters and people who claim to love everyone (PC people) are extremely judgmental if you don't fit into their world view. It's very easy to sit back and judge everyone else but not yourself. "He doesn't agree with me? He's just an ignorant redneck! He's to stupid to understand my point of view"

It is the power of language.

Subconsciously, it has been thrust upon the average American that they will be shunned and outcast if they do not adhere to the utmost orthodoxy of so called "progressive" mores. Regardless of whether they make logical sense, contradict, or are without meaning.

When you force upon the conversation either the word justice or the word bigotry, it's heads I win-tails you lose. There is zero middle ground, there is no room for subtlety or discretion.

The only rational response I find palatable is to just not participate and let the societal destruction take its course.

Another thing to note is that this country is more segregated than ever, and so brown people are like mystical beings to a large portion of white folk. They don't see them or their troubles up close, and so they are working with complete abstraction in their mind.

The only thing that offends me is people being offended. That might sound silly - but I really hate people who feel their feelings should trump somebody else's right to free speech.

So - I am definitely against the excesses of the PC brigade.

Yet - I am interested in finding the best logical arguments to fight against the opposite side in this battle.

Once - you accept there is no God. It becomes hard to justify any judgment about 'deviancies' or social norms.

It is like arguing over which way is North - when everyone has a different compass pointing in different directions.

So - whilst I agree with the anti-PC brigade on some issues (personally I am an extreme liberal as regards sexuality). I think we are being lazy by not concentrating more on logical counter-arguments. As opposed to just laughing at the other side and saying how pissed we are.

As such - I would appreciate some useful arguments to help frame the debate. Since at the moment - the PC brigade are being allowed to frame the debate in their own terms. And winning...

PC is average. Many PC people can go far in life despite them being mediocre or low intelligence. They just play safe. Here in internet it is easy to be non PC.In real life you get reaction from spitting to punching.
Basically our incompetent elites in Greece are PC as hell. One reason for the crisis they do not listen to stuff when it is not PC.This is usually the real stuff so their collapse is imminent.

Agree with Galnuc69.

PC is the latest fashion and most people are slaves to the latest fashion. Most people are either incapable or afraid of truly independent thought, so they follow the herd and the herd is currently running towards PC.

It's all part of the plan to control people. If you are looked at as weird for being different and thinking for yourself you will be less likely to do so.

"When you believe in nothing you will fall for anything."

Western education system and mass media indoctrinates people to believe that their traditions, religions, instincts, common sense, parents, et cetera are false. Furthermore, they perpetuate the idea that everything is relative and personal, and that truth is not even something worth striving for.

So in effect, the elites have created a nation of "blank slates" that can be easily bombarded with the belief system of the bien-pensants through media outlets, television, public schools, academia, etc.

Most people I know, who are my age actually aren't, just in public etc. However, there are some younger people at work (late teens, early twenties) who literally look at me with a sort of surprised-yet-mildly-amused-shock when I say something slightly 'bad'. I made a very harmless joke about Downs Syndrome, and this guy at work was like "you can't say that!!". He's a cool guy as well, I'm actually teaching him game, so the younger generation really have been brainwashed into politeness.

Why are so many people PC?

In addition to all the other great points in this thread, most people are appallingly ignorant.

They don't learn much in school (and what they did pick up was tainted by whatever flavor of culturally Marxist propaganda was then in vogue) and derive virtually all their knowledge of the world from the mainstream media, in one form or another, which amounts to more propaganda. If the propaganda is PC, they're going to be PC.

This is coupled with another, deeper cause. In public discourse in the US, it is considered extremely bad form to reference religion or speak of it seriously -especially the Christian religion. (Other religions are ok because they are diverse and cool and seem more exotic.) It is considered a divisive subject, because the US is far from religiously homogenous, and so citing religious obligation or whatever is not likely to convince whoever you are talking to. Reasonable enough. However, the revolutionary separation of Church and State in the Constitution had the effect of enshrining this principle, though it took generations for the principle to be taken to its logical conclusion. If we accept on paper that one religion is as good as another, or none at all, and that it's best to just keep that as a private matter of conscience, then eventually this leads to the conclusion that religion does not matter, that it is a hindrance rather than a help to society, and that all vestiges of it ought to be removed from public society.

This thought process breeds political correctness, for two reasons. First, if God is removed as a source of morals, something else must be substituted -humanity. Since the worship of man is now foremost in the minds of most of the active participants in public discourse, their values reflect that. They celebrate and defer to man's knowledge (science) and variety (diversity.) These become the touchstones of morality for 21st century practical-agnostic society, and with no other objective criteria, all diversity must be treated equally, and all scientific progress praised and applied as quickly to daily life as possible. (Technology almost takes the place of a religious sacrament to elevate mankind.) Secondly, since the new materialistic and man-centered de-facto religion is in the ascent, anything that hearkens back to Christianity or pre-diversity thought (such as making objective value judgments about things) is extremely unfashionable and verboten. Nobody wants to seem like an uneducated, unenlightened, unprogressive, anti-diverse redneck country bumpkin who is out-of-touch with mainstream society (and who is probably racist, anti-semitic, misogynistic, and homophobic, four of the most commonly stigmatized anti-diverse viewpoints.)

Additionally, when people believe in everything, they really believe in nothing, especially not their own cultural heritage. So there's this unfulfilled psychological need for a substitute cultural identity, and that is often fulfilled today by celebrating other, less watered-down cultures, or doing something "proactive" like protesting some perceived injustice with a Facebook picture.

This ties in with philosophy as well. Modern subjectivist philosophy, pioneered by Descartes, concludes that man cannot really be certain of anything. This principle, applied, negates the concepts of reality and absolute truth, because if we cannot know them then, at least practically speaking, it is the same as if they do not exist. Again we have a breakdown into chaos. If God is unknowable, if objective reality is even unknowable, then nothing matters and we're just going to be worm food in some decades anyway, so life is meaningless and we may as well strive to get as much pleasure as possible from it, and the only real moral limitation on that is that, in fairness, we must absolutely not step on or criticize anyone else, because they have their 'right' to happiness just like you do. As people flock to higher education in the hopes that it will help them get ahead in life, they take philosophy classes and imbibe this worldview, since most of them have little knowledge to refute their professors, and even fewer convictions to give them any incentive to do so.

All these factors have been in play and acting in concert for about 50 years now, during which time more and more women have entered public life, and the snowballing political correctness of yesterday is now a stifling, unstoppable juggernaut.

Politically Correct or Pussy Correct. I don't think this is American culture because there's still a lot of people out there who could care less about acting like this. You see PC crap all over our media so dumbasses latch onto it to be like everyone else and not stand out. Like LBH said, you can be PC and easily look down on people who don't fall in line with the views or have different opinions just because "it's wrong and they're mean".

I like how it's cool and hip to bash Christians and their religion, but those people are to much of a pussy to talk about any other ones. You have to be PC with certain things but some stuff is free for everyone to talk shit about because those people are just dumb and ignorant anyways!!

To be honest. I'm pretty lazy. I could be quite happy just letting shit slide - and letting people do what they want. And ignoring it.

Yet - I try and fight that apathy. Since I know that such apathy is what modern society is trying to drum into people. The 'be nice and don't say anything unless it is nice. And don't ever say anything which might accidentally upset someone'.

It is tempting to live like that. It is the easy way - and it is something which fits comfortably with who I am.

Yet - I make myself fight it. Everyday. Usually with a Mark Minter Manifesto or two...

Political correctness was simply meant to be an aspect of journalistic professionalism. A way of improving objective writing by avoiding needlessly offensive language that would detract from the facts and logic. If you're writing about obesity or homosexuality, using terms like fatsos and faggots will provoke emotional responses which are contrary to the ideal of objectivity. As a journalist confused about which term is most appropriate would be able to refer to these guidelines and avoid pissing people off for no good reason.

PC forgot the goal was objectivity.

PC was co-opted by the left for its own ends.

PC became a framework for definint broad social taboos, not simply limited to journalism.

I wonder if it has something to do with class, class identity. Connected with the brilliant thought from Stuff White People Like that a lot of American culture is a competition to show how smart you are. We've got a lot of people with liberal arts degrees out there who aren't doing that well economically, but have been told all their lives that they are smart.

If you have an expensive degree and a shitty job, your class identity as one of the elite is threatened. Very important to prove you've still got 'it', i.e. intelligence. Universities are largely liberal/progressive, and traditional values are associated with dumb country people, southern rednecks, etc.

So the way a barista can prove he's still part of the educated elite is to talk about how "problematic" depictions of gender on Game of Thrones are "on soooo many levels," thereby associating himself with the cultural elite while distancing himself (and looking down upon) the uneducated redneck.

Meanwhile, the redneck is out doing stuff our overeducated nancy-boy barista will never be able to do. Fix his truck. Hunt, dress, and cook game. Fix his roof, be able to do rudimentary level home repair etc... while the barista is talking about how politically incorrect TV show characters are. Hmm, I wonder which one I would rather be...?

Because most people are pussy's and sheep like followers. They have the unrealistic notion that it's possible to go through life and be liked by everyone. They fear confrontation and difficult circumstances so they want to go through life in complete comfort. What better way to do that than to be politically correct just like everybody else?

Well a couple of my friends are gay, and they're great people (one, which I have mentioned on the forum before, is a good friend of mine, and she's the opposite of what most dudes would think in terms of her personality, honestly, one of the sweetest people I have ever met in my life and I'll stand by that until the day I die, and she understands the red pill values that I express sometimes). I'll defend them because I know them and they've been good to me, but as far as the whole "you must affirm someone's differences" I totally disagree. You shouldn't have to affirm anyone, it's completely up to you and your RIGHT to decide where you stand on people and what you think.

It's been unbelievable to think that since I "took the red pill" I've adopted so many "conservative" values . To think where I was three or four years ago is insane, I would have slapped myself on some things if I had the chance. Though I was never too bad, I remember in SPED we were reviewing this article about rape, and I expressed the idea that it could have been falsely reported, and this was waaaaay before game, Roissy etc. They took me out of the room, sat me down and explained to me exactly why what I thought was wrong and had me apologize to this girl in the room who was probably never raped but felt so strongly on the issue (and we were probably only 16/17 years old). I gave her a half assed apology after my time in the oven.

I've been called an asshole and racist and sexist (WOMAN HATERRRR!!) so many times when I've tried to explain myself and my views on things that now I could care less. I bite my tongue most of the time, mostly for the sake of myself, but on the inside, so much of what I hear makes my blood boil. You're right, PC is kind of out of control, but there's nothing better than knowing on the inside that you can see the code and understand the truth when most people just get poked along in embracing the poisons that are destroying society.

EVERYONE carries microphones and cameras now, in addition to the hidden security cameras that are everywhere. Also, people post things to their facebooks enforcing PC an police state basically. google makes it all instantly searchable to top it all off.

people are basically scared to say anything, since they can take the bread out of your mouth. (see rooshs post on this)

I honestly think the state/freedom ended as we knew it with the growth of facebook, which was the last straw.

100 years from now it will be considered the defining moment.

i know that the younger generation, judging by how my younger siblings think, actually confuse the mask people were and the pc opinions they project as reality, instead of just a collective defensive mechanism, which is what it really is. Basically, for kids growing up in the environment, they dont realize its just a collective defensive mechanism so adults ont have the bread taken from their mouthes.

Cause nobody has any goddamn hobbies or interests anymore to occupy their minds. Social media has made "people" everyone's new hobby. My grandpa would hang out all day in his workshop building shit, you think he cared about being PC or if someone called him a Guido? No. He just cared about how to build the next thing he wanted to build. People need to actually have things to do that don't involve others in order to stop giving a shit about other people's words and opinions.
