NY Post had a short article today about Bob Guccionne, the founder of Penthouse. It's really interesting, he's the opposite of Hefner.
I guess his assistant of 3 decades is coming out with a book and thats what this article is about.
He started out as a cartoonist, and started penthouse in europe before coming to the states and amassing a fortune. Instead of being a partier and social gadfly like Hefner, he was more like Howard Hughes, lol

A quote from the article:
"Now 62, she spent more than three decades as Guccione’s right hand..."
She must have been busy.

What really annoys me is the title of the story, about how Guccione "exploited" the fairer sex. And a man wrote this piece. The whole premise that these magazines exploit the women that appear in them is tired and ridiculous. No one forces these women to show up and strip for the camera. I'm also surprised there's no mention of his directing "Caligula." I too was saddened by how his life and career ended - the publishing game, especially adult magazines, is a rough game. He didn't adapt (and I'm guessing his reclusive nature didn't help him), and went back and forth with the direction of the magazine (for a time, they went hardcore, showing penetration, etc.). They also didn't mention the falling out with his son Bob Jr., who he help start "Spin" magazine, and eventually leading to his kid suing him.
"The best kind of pride is that which compels a man to do his best when no one is watching."

...and also led to one of the most amusing diss tracks of all time, the mostly-forgotten Guns N Roses song "Get In The Ring."
