Need a Job to feed Kid

I got a buddy in a tough situation:
He's an African in Russia who got a girl pregnant and they decided to keep the kid. Guy has a university degree but its worthless over there, and he speaks only English. He's unemployed and needs to feed his wife and kid. He has African citizenship, so he is stuck there and no EU visa.

The guy's dug himself into a hole, but he's a good fellow.

Is there any online job he can do? Any jobs you can think of in Russia, that don't require Russian?

I'd like to help a friend out, but I dunno what to advise the guy. I don't envy his situation.

Uh, English teacher? That sounds like a no-brainer.

I advise him that right at the start.

Trouble is, he says there are plenty of foreigners doing that job already.

He's done some talks about Africa at English schools, but nothing full time. I guess because he's black and African he has trouble getting work. They look at Brits and Americans as real native speakers.

Perhaps advertising hard for private lessons is what I advised him.

Assuming he's in Moscow, DeVere Group would be worth a try. They sell tax-efficient financial planning to expats.
I got offered a job with them last year but couldn't go. From what I remember, it will be commission-only, though.

Thanks for the link, I sent it.

He's not in Minsk, but in a regional center.

The guy is very motivated and interested in finance and business, even though he may lack the formal training. Its worth a shot with that company.

Yeah, could be worth a shot. I don't have any formal training in finance, nor do many graduates they recruit, so it isn't a huge problem-all you need to be able to do is sell. You do get training on the instruments though. The entry-level positions were called independent financial advisors, i think.

I was looking at GazProm recently too, which might be a more stable paycheck. They have a presence in Russia but I couldn't say where offhand.

The guy has a degree in agriculture back in Africa. I don't think he'll be qualified for those positions.

Perhaps trades would be better: study Russian and finish a course in Welding, Electrical work, etc. Maybe commercial driver's license and do trucking

No I never really pursued them because they require odd hours and the pay is relatively low. It seems like a lot of the business is for Russians, so youre expected to work before and after the working day in Moscow. I wouldnt expect more than 8 dollars an hour from this kinda work.
