I use a pill cutter and take 2.5mg of addy if I'm struggling to focus on a project and need to get on track. I wait an hour and in the rare case that I'm still struggling, I'll take another 2.5mg. If I don't need it, I don't take it. Lately it's probably 3 times a week because my mind has had a tendancy to wander more than usual- I've had a bunch of left-field shit to deal with at work, trying to find a new apt, and training for my first BJJ tournament this weekend. But no doubt about it, this is a serious drug that if not used properly can really screw you up. It's my overall philosophy/goal to minimize dependence on chemicals and focus on diet and exercise as much as possible to achieve peak mental performance - in an ideal world, I wouldn't need adderall. But sometimes you gotta get shit done.

I can see why it screws people up if they are poppin 10s and 20s - that's nuts. Cut that shit up! Less likely to get addicted/side effects, and the scrip will last longer.

Try nootropics. I posted about it in another thread.

Piracetam has been around for more than 40 years and has been proven to work, with minimal side effects.

Just wiki'd it. How and when should it be taken? It seems to boost cognitive performance but does not seem to make you more productive, like adderall.

I've never used Adderall. I've only been prescribed Vyvanse (It did nothing for me). I'm trying to find a doctor near Downtown Dallas who has no problems prescribing Adderall or Ritalin. From what I've researched, these two meds have shown the most effectiveness. I wish there wasn't a stigma on these meds, but too many idiots have abused them, making it harder for people who actually need them harder to get a prescription for. The only doc offices I'm seeing anywhere remotely near me are in Plano, and Richardson. That's too far, you'd have to drive on US-75 to get there from Dallas, which is a pain in the ass, I hate that damn highway. Does anyone know any doctors who specialize in ADHD in downtown Dallas, or near the outskirts of it? Please PM me the docs office details if you can, thank you.

yeah , check out http://smart-drugs.net/JamesSouth-nootropics.htm

Personally, I know a few med students. Who are using Piracetam and other smart drugs for revision. It seems to help with concentration and assimilation, but I don't really like the downer effects that these types of drugs have in the long term, easy to become dependent. Thus feeling slow without them.
I imagine them to work like caffeine but with a deeper effect.

All depends on you, if you think you can hack it then no harm in testing them out in moderation.

I have crammer buddies who swear by them.

From what I hear it's not as easy to get prescribed these days as it used to be. Regardless, I think that shit sucks.

I've tried concerta. I love the feeling on it when it works, but one thing I've learned is that it doesn't magically make you into a great student -- if you have a big paper due on these meds and you decide to clean your room, you'll just clean your room really really well .. doesn't make you do what's most important.

I wanted to post an update as it's been over a month now.

I really like this drug and am so grateful that my doctor prescribed it after listening to some of my frustrations. I am now taking the full 10mg pill every work day (had wanted to try and keep it at 5mg but thats not potent enough) and I don't really have that amazing "hummmmm" buzz of productivity in my head, but am still energetic, efficient, motivated, and (most importantly) no longer sluggish.

I can honestly say that for the past 3 years (after I had contracted mono) I felt sluggish and unrested for about 66% of my waking hours. I was ALWAYS fucking yawning and never felt like doing anything. The only period I was motivated and "normal" was when I bought/fixed up my condo last year for about 2 months and when I was doing shit that I loved like working out, going on dates, going to games, vacations, etc. I took 2 hour naps almost every workday and by the time I woke up it was like 2:45PM and I kind of mailed in the rest of the workday. I don't think I've taken a single nap on any of the 20+ workdays that I've taken adderall so far.

Side effects - I had a few sleepless nights the first 5 times I took it. Not every night - just some nights. I had problems performing sexually with two chicks that I really wanted to fuck. I simply explained what was going on and they were cool more or less. I went down on them and then was able to make up for it in the morning in both instances. It feels like my body has adjusted now and that hasn't been an issue for the last 2 weekends. Other than that no side effects.

So: One month in - I give it a solid "A-" grade. It's changed my life for the better so far but I'll be vigilant about trying to maintain at only 10mg and only use it on weekdays (unless I have some epic weekend task).

I've been taking Adderall since I was 10 years old. I'm turning 27 in a week.

Here's what adderall does:

It's an amphetamine. It raises your heart rate. It increases blood flow to your brain. Your blood goes to one of three main places: your brain, your muscles, or your stomach, which is why it messes with some people's appetite. If you decide to work out, you can go much harder which shows how much of working out is mental.

Here's what adderall does not do:

Give you willpower or a good work ethic. I've dicked around for 8/10/12/16 hours a day as much as I have gotten 8/10/12/16 straight hours of work done without stopping.

Adderall will put nitroglycerin in your tank, but you still need to steer. Since it speeds up your heart rate, it gives you more energy. It also makes you think more. Which means that if you have extra energy you are not using to focus on a task, it'll make you bite your nails more and any other subconscious nervous ticks, which can kill your game if you're not careful.

The single greatest piece of advice I have ever gotten towards leading a successful, fulfilled life was from Roosh. Right before you go to bed, if you don't already have a tremendous amount of work ahead of you that is already broken up, give yourself 110% of the amount of tasks you think you can accomplish in a day given maximum effort.

If you're taking adderall, make it 170%.

What it comes down to is dosage. I've been taking it for a very long time so I have a high tolerance (60mg a day, but cramming for finals in college up to 150mg in 24 hours).

I also recommend taking the XR (extended release) if you can. It doesn't give you the harsh buzz at the beginning and really does as advertised. It lasts longer so you don't have to take as much, although you still might need to drink some coffee first thing.

Start slow. Take 5 mg first thing in the morning to start. Work your way up. As soon as you start to have extra nervous habits, anxiety, or any other symptoms of having to much unused brainpower, scale it back. That's where you are most productive.

Also when you can, lie to your doctor. Before I switched back to XR I was taking 50mg a day, but told him I was taking 60mg and got it in 10mg tabs. That way, you can have backups, give some to friends/idiots, or sell it as you see fit.

Right now I think I found the perfect cocktail. I've been taking it for about a week and only had fantastic results:

1 Scoop NOS (includes BCAA's, creatine, and bunch of jargon/garbage chemicals)
1/2 inch of ACV
1/2 inch of agave sweetening stuff
fill water in pint glass

Use above to wash down Adderall XR and 2 fish oil pills. The creatine/etc preworkout drink knocks out any grogginess from sleep that the XR really doesn't take care of.

Right now I have to drive about five miles to get it because every pharmacy within 5 miles of Tulane campus is always out (plus there was a national shortage).

I don't think everyone needs it, and I don't think everyone that takes it does need it, but many more people should be taking it. Without it, I have no energy or gumption to do much of anything. It makes me not feel lazy, and therefore not be lazy. It doesn't make me proactive, but if you have the desire to be proactive and just can't muster the energy, it is a huge tool for doing so.

If you're already regularly working at your potential, adderall won't help you except in those situations where you need to sprint/pull all nighters.

If you're not, try it. If you don't like it, you can always stop/sell it.

You're in NOLA? Born and raised there - had to move to MKE for work. I used to date a Tulane law student and was kind of motivated to try adderall after seeing her and her classmates use it to study. It took a couple years for me to finally make it happen - wish I wouldn't have slated.

I used adderall for about 2 years. The stuff works great in the beginning, but after an extended amount of time the side effects totally caught up to me.
-I ended up having to take Xanax to come down off adderall, and help me sleep. I also become manic, aggressive, and at times couldn't sleep. There were times were I thought my heart would explode out of my chest as well.
-The dry mouth got horrible, my throat became so incredibly dry and it made it hard to speak.
-I would get brain fog when I came down and it would render me "useless" for hours afterwards (which starts to negate the productivity gains).

I wish the side effects didn't outweigh the gains.
Here are the good points:

I kept my house totally clean, neat and spotless (adderall turned me into a neat freak). I could study for hours on end without any sort of fatigue. And yes, there are times were you felt like a superhero and nothing could stop you. The movie limitless is honestly a GREAT representation of what adderall was like (including the downside and the crash at the end).

I do kind of see the downside in this respect : yesterday I had a work emergency come up and I had to drive about 90 miles away on the spur of the moment first thing in the AM. I forgot to take my Aderrall and I was FUCKED the entire day. So groggy, not motivated to make networking phone calls while driving (just wasted my time listening to Howard Stern), then when I got back I crashed from 2PM to 5PM and was STILL tired at 10PM that night. So it really makes you a fucking zombie when you're not on it - which sucks. Plus I ate like SHIT since my appetite wasn't at all suppressed. Probably gained 3 lbs yesterday on pizza, arby's, etc. I guess I am now 100% dependant on it for work days but still... at this point the positives far outweigh the negatives. My condo is spotless, neat, and I'm getting ready to start renovating my closet as I've already knocked out my entire day of work admin and it's not even 11AM yet.

I had snorted it drunk a few times in college but recently tried it for the first time in adult life. I heard it was "steroids for writing" so I'd hoped to crank out several pages of life-changing genius literature. Instead I just live-blogged my experiences watching porn and focusing on grass and tree bark:

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

It did make me sweat and smell funny, but there wasn't much of a crash. I will try it again when I have a very specific agenda laid out, instead of just "write stuff." E.g.:
  • Finish an already-outlined piece
  • Practice guitar
  • Clean fish tank
  • Call a drunken sow off OKCupid for filthy amphetamine gutter sex

i used to be on 20mg 2 x a day. i used and abused adderall. i crushed it up and snorted it. i pounded pills. i would cruise on the 40mg /day.

in the end, while yes it is a miracle drug in many ways, the damage was too much.

i have permanently fucked my adrenal system because of it.

its one of those things where you wont believe other people until you fuck yourself on it.

just google adderall addiction and help me quit adderall and see what is out there for you

does absolutely nothing for me. the whole add thing is a scam because you never disciplined yourself to focus.
