On frontpage of Yahoo!: Slovakian cyclist pinches backside of ‘podium girl,’ later apologizes after heavy criticism.

Laments of a mangina at Guardian.

How the hell did this sentence make it onto a mainstream outlet like Yahoo?

Quote:Quote:

The photograph has actually opened up a much-needed debate about the presence of the smooch-happy podium girls and the ingrained objectification of women in the world of cycling. Is the winner taking home a cycling title or an armful of women? It sends the wrong message, especially for young women actually looking to hop on a cycle instead of a cyclist.

Or maybe the implication is that it's "into the arms of" a cyclist, and not "onto the cock of."

And, of course, the cyclist... backpedals... and capitulates to the PC-feminist complex:

Quote:Quote:

Was not my intention to disrespect women today on the podium. Just a joke, sorry if someone was disturbed about it.

Select quote from Guardian:

Quote:Quote:

It's hard not to draw the conclusion that the institutionalized sexism of the "podium girls" convention is of a piece with entrenched attitudes that relegate women's racing to "poor relation" status.

Sorry mainstreamopshere--attractive girls like being valued for being attractive, and access to attractive females is an implied reward for and a huge motivator of male achievement.

Actually I'm not sorry, nor am I sorry that I'm not sorry. It just made the sentence flow better.

At least a lot of people in the comments section of that Yahoo! article seem to get it.

Peter Sagan may have finished second in the Tour of Flanders in Belgium

He should've known better. I bet if he did it in Slovakia no one would have noticed.

I love it. Get while the gettin's good. Wouldn't it be awesome to see the guy who wins the Silver in the 100 meters do that when the girl hangs the gold on the guy who actually won.

Just awesome.

I wonder if anyone asked the girl what she thought about being objectified by the male patriarchy? The fact is, the same nagging feminists and manginas bitching about this don't want to know. Because WTF would they do if she told the truth and said "I was hoping they'd take me to the back and spit roast me like a good little whore." Feminists and manginas are just as bad about objectifying women.

I think that the real lesson here is that the greatest and best of us have women voluntarily standing at our side, while the losers get the crumbs - or worse yet, have to pinch asses. Be a winner, not a piker.

On the one hand, I think when you're on the podium you should act with certain levels of professionalism.

On the other hand, if women are complaining about the woman being objectified by an ass-pinch, well your WHOLE STATUS as a podium girl is nothing more than a sex object.

but whatsup with the podium girls anyway? Is there some sort of unspoken rule where they're supposed to show up to the winners "Afterparty" after the race, or do they do their gig and thats that.

I'd wager it was more of a reprimand from his sponsors threatening to drop him. Everyone's got a price you know [Image: wink.gif]

This is stupid. She doesn't seem to care so why does anyone else? Get a life and stop worrying about other people's shit.

Oh it get's better than that. See, when they get old they get ALL PISSED OFF that men aren't interested in them anymore. They're DESPERATE to be objectified and lusted after. So much of their "outrage" is just good old fashioned jealousy for their own lost youth and desirability.

Jealousy is probably the primary characteristic that defines female to female relations.

The internet is a great vehicle for people who are constantly outraged. I guarantee noone voiced their outrage on the spot when this happened.

I am outraged.

Technology has robbed the unwashed masses the ability to comprehend basic shit so everyone act offended anytime they hear or see something that could be considered inappropiate.

"NEW YORK — CBS analyst Doug Gottlieb got coverage of the NCAA tournament's Sweet 16 off to an awkward start, saying he was there to bring the "white man's perspective" to the network's pregame show.

"Speaking on a panel with four African-American men, Gottlieb made his comment Thursday during a pre-game segment before Marquette beat Miami, sparking criticism on Twitter that his words were inappropriate.

"I don't know why you guys ask me, I'm just here to bring diversity to this set, give kind of the white man's perspective," he said during the show.

Fellow analyst Greg Anthony made a face after Gottlieb's remark and Kenny Smith said he had "jumped right into it."

Gottlieb was still on set Thursday night and unavailable for comment, but issued a statement through CBS.

"It was not a smart thing to say and I apologize," he said.

Fellow analyst Charles Barkley stood by Gottlieb on the broadcast during a break in the games later in the night.

"I know this has nothing to do with the game; I want to say something about Doug Gottlieb," Barkley said. "He made a joke earlier tonight and people are going crazy. All those idiots on Twitter, which I would never ever do, all you people at home who've got no life and are talking bad about Doug Gottlieb, get a life. It's over with. It's no big deal."

The internet has made it possible for people who are to scared to even look you in your eyes the ability to voice their opinions loudly.
