Great Gatsby Movie?

Anyone else getting excited for the Great Gatsby film coming out?

I've been looking forward to this for the past year.

I remember reading the novel back in AP English, junior year. I don't know what it was, but the writing and I just clicked.

I'm also hoping Leonardo DiCaprio gets some cred for once. This man has straight hustled for the last 15 years, and he hasn't gotten an award to show for it. Titanic, Gangs of New York, Departed, The Aviator, Blood Diamond, Shutter Island, Inception - and he's only got one nomination for best actor, for Blood Diamond.

I'm looking forward to it. Leonardo's one of my favorite actors, too.

I think he got a Golden Globe for The Aviator. But I see what you mean. He got snubbed a million times.

I'm skeptical. I love the novel. I dig Leo as an actor. But I hate Baz Luhrmann. His style is way too slick. And I wouldn't be surprised if a song and dance number breaks out.

Movies based on books are usually shit but I hope this is one of the exceptions. I read the book last year and I am likewise pretty skeptical that they are going to pull it off. I will go and see the movie when it comes out because I go to most of Leo’s movies and I have a soft spot for Carrie Mulligan despite the short hair. Also it better have a good sex scene[Image: smile.gif]

Strange.

Watching that trailer is like looking at a typical week in my life.

Only there are usually more girls around and it is set in a different time period.

His performances don't always necessarily deserve awards, although he does makes great film choices. However, his performances in Django, and in the Aviator were excellent and award worthy.

Redford-Waterston version sucked. Leo can't lose.

Didn't like the novel, can't expect much from the film! Baz Luhrmann is the ideal director to try and put some hot air into a book about hot air.

Outside of the J Edgar Hoover flick Leo usually makes good movies. Hopefully this will be no different.

Why? She looks like a pouting 12 year old boy.

Yeah, I don't dig her that much.

But I that's due to Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

I was so pissed off throughout that movie, for a number of reasons. One of them was because Shia Lebouf was a fucking boss, making mad cash, and she was cramping his style hardcore. And then with how the ending goes, it turns out she was right and all this bullshit.

Well, I better end this rant now.

Hahaha, that would make my day. The absurdity of that would be too much to handle.

I was just watching this and don't think I can even finish. The "love" obsession and premise that a man does everything in his life for a woman is ridiculous.

The movie showed her to be a shallow cunt, and in today's Hollywood that's a rarity. While DiCaprio comes off as a simp, he is at least the sympathetic person in the relationship. His conscience is clear, hers is not.

In the book this is more clearly defined.

I'm a big Fitzgerald fan and was psyched for the film. Like most book to film adaptations, it was a major disappointment.

People were expecting Dicaprio to play it as this massive cock-swinging alpha dog, but it's just not a realistic way to write a "romantic" film these days. They want a female audience which is why he was cast in the first place. If they had cast Christian Bale in the role you could have expected a much different result.

I didn't bother. The moment it was announced as being directed by Baz Luhrmann, I recognised he was in over his head. I expected shallow, gaudy depictions of opulence that resembled a gay mardi gras; an anachronistic soundtrack; and a complete lack of substance.

One of the points of the novel is that Gatsby is Faking Being Alpha by peacocking via the trappings of wealth and success due to pedastalling a girl from his past, and thinking it is how he can win her away from her partner. He is every guy who misunderstands game.

Daisy sees through his performance and is unimpressed, and stays with the True Alpha who provides the kind of dominance and abuse that is the bullshit drama women love.

Gatsby White Knights for her, and dies as a result.

The book is Red Pill as Fuck, though the feminised education system guarantees they'd never point this out in a High School English Class. They'd say the behaviour of Daisy is the exception, not the rule. We know better.

I have a favorite quote from Fitzgerald. He could really write, which is why he's still a widely selling author decades after his death.

"Having once found the intensity of art, nothing else that can happen in life can ever again seem as important as the creative process."

Caprio has always been one of my favorite actors. Hes a top 5 actor in my book. Have you seen his performance in Django? Dude was epic!!!

In the scene where he slams his fist on a glass he is shown bleeding from his left hand and toughs it out through the whole scene, that's real blood right there. Now that's an actor.

@OP: When does the "Great Gabsy" come out?
