In the four years she has been seeking a wife for her son, Zhao Yong, there have been only a handful of prospects. Even so, when a woman in a green plastic visor paused to scan her sign that day, Ms. Yu put on a bright smile and told of her son’s fine character and good looks. The woman asked: “Does he own an apartment in Beijing?” Ms. Yu’s smile wilted, and the woman moved on.

I get your point, but I think you meant to say a Chinese dude. In most of Asia outside of India and China, the sex ratios are a lot more balanced and the women still very traditional and feminism is much weaker than the US of A. Trust me, the average poor filipino, korean, thai, and non beta japanese dude is laying pipe in his country and doesnt have to deal with the fat chicks and bad attitudes that are common here.

I don't know what it's like now but Vietnam used to be one of those places where there was a much higher female to male ratio. Foreign guys swooping up chicks were not really perceived as "bad" as they apparently treated women there more respectively than a lot of the local players.
