For a city it's size (American cities the size of Quebec City are Oklahoma or Tucson), Quebec has a lot going on (the already mentioned Festival d'Ete, the Carnival in winter, Red Bull Crashed Ice, la Fete de la Nouvelle-France, etc), however it is no Montreal in terms of nightlife or variety of things to do and places to go. In my opinion, Quebecois girls from Quebec City are generally cuter than those in Mtl, and they are definitely friendlier. However, Quebec is nowhere nearly as diverse as Montreal, so you won't find much variety. In the summer however there are lots of anglophone Canadian college girls that go there "to learn French."

Any info on bars, nightclubs, and restaurants?

As I mentioned previously most interesting places are in Grande Allee, close to Old Quebec. Dagobert is perhaps the most famous nightclub in Quebec, you find there a mostly young crowd; just across the street there is another popular club called Maurice. Some 15-20 minutes from there, in Sainte Foy district, there are a couple of interesting places: in the mall "Place de la Cite" there is Beaugarte, which is a restaurant that turns into a nightclub ( http://www.beaugarte.com/restaurant_bar.html ) and the restaurant "Les Trois Brasseurs" of Montreal fame in the contiguous "Place St Foy."

In Old Quebec there are a couple of pubs: the Saint Alexandre which is an English pub, and the Saint Patrick's which is Irish. Both are in Saint Jean street, which goes from inside the walls that divide the Old Quebec from the rest of the city, just to Saint Foy. I don't know much about restaurants, the few I can recommend are Les Anciens Canadiens, the Lapin Saute which has a nice terrace, and I'd say the restaurants at the Chateau Frontenac are good too, never went though.

Found this blog article by someone named 'Rakxs' who compares the Quebecoise culture to the french one from his time in Quebec City. A good read for those in europe wanting to move or travel in Quebec to check out what the fuss is all about.

About the dating world as mentioned in point 8, he agrees that in Quebec, the girl calls all the shots in the relationship. Does that mean game would have a minimal effect on them? Looks like they are more resistant to flirting and might even view them as cheesy and suspicion unless they were already into you.

Also, the sterile working environment that he describes reminds me of the #metoo movement we are having in the anglo world. Jokes about women however innocent might have serious consequences. Even the media puts a lot of effort on women rights etc. compared to the French.

The aggressive nature of women mean that men have little control/influence in the dating world and the focus on women issues in the society implies that it's indeed a matriarchy. Is quebec only little better than their anglo counterparts in North America?
