You are quoting me incorrectly about "this one night stand shit"

I never said there was no one night stands in Philly...I said... "Women here are also less likely to have a ONS".... I'm comparing it to surrounding cities like Washington D.C and New York which have more transplants, hence, females are more likely to engage in slutty behavior. A lot of people go to college together and know each other, people are far more likely to stick to their social circle. Many young women also spend their summer weekends down the shore, where ONS is more likely. The best way for one night stands is live in "Center City West" and invite girls on dates near your place. You'll definitely have some ONS. If you live on the outskirts of downtown, it will be harder for you.

Thanks for the clarification.

What's your opinion on cities with less transplants for overall lifestyle? I'm a "lone wolf" type guy and have basically abandoned social circle game the last 3 years with pretty decent success and go out solo regularly. I can easily go out alone and meet people. A city with more cliquiness could hurt my game.

I'm not sure how much weight I should let that have on my decision between Chicago and Philly. That's another fact I have to consider now.

Good post.

RIP LOS MANGELES AKA THE WORST AMERICAN CITY FOR GAME!

Killadelphia, we're coming, bay-bee (at least for the summer, prior to Business School)!

Alongside Center City, what are some of the best daygame spots in Philadelphia?

West Philly?
South Philly?
Southwest Philly?
North Philly?

Just spent my first night in Philadelphia. So far, so good, except...

My brother and I were in Center City at a really nice Italian restaurant and a group of hoodlum degenerates came up to us, trying to sell us cocaine, lol. We were utterly shocked, given the quality of restaurant we were at and the fact we were in the best part of town. We were sitting outside, right next to the damn entrance.

Is that kind of stuff normal out here? Left a really bad taste in both of our mouths.

This is where we were:

Looks like your in the gayborhood. So on that specific block its very normal for kids to sell you crack cocaine. Thats usually where I get my crack before a night out on the town. Some of the restaurants are cool with you doing it at the table as long as you wash your own dishes after you eat.

"The best part of town" for restaurants -- with outdoor seating like in your picture -- and bars is Rittenhouse Square, centered at 18th and Walnut sts, not where you were. No that is not at all normal, police would intercede if it happened out in the open like you describe.

Philadelphia is going through its own gentrification. Certain parts are being bought up and renovated, but the good areas are still right next to more shady areas.

Thanks man.

Haha, you guys may think I'm making up that story, but I'm dead serious it happened, precisely as I described. There was a policeman a block away but the kids were quiet enough to the point where no one else heard, not to mention my brother and I had no desire to rat on them. Perhaps they were out there, even though it was Center City because it was relatively late (9:45 PM) on a weeknight? I don't know.

First, a homeless guy walked up to us and asked us for change. We said no. Then these three kids in their late-teens/early 20s walked up and asked us about the hats we were wearing and if we were from Philly. A minute later, one of them asks us, "Are you looking for coke?" I say to him, "Absolutely not," and they walked away.

Nah I think you're telling the truth. I was joking around because there is really no way to tell exact where you are. I never experienced anything like that in Center City, thought I wouldn't be surprised if were near Northern Liberties/Fishtown area.

The cops are pretty good in Philly about keeping order downtown. I've never seen anything happen down there. Manayunk and Roxborough are also fairly safe due to Fairmount park cutting it off from the rest of the city.

Yeah, man. I think it was really just an anomaly.

Side note...Philadelphia has to be the best kept secret in the pick-up "community." It boggles my mind that this city consistently gets slept on. Now, I've only been here for a few days, but it's very clear to me that it's comparable to NYC and Chicago as a TIER 1 city for a single fellow (DISCLAIMER: I have yet to check out Miami, New Orleans, and Atlanta).

Doesn't quite have the quantity of women those two cities boast, but Philly still has a ton of women, many of whom are smoking hawt, and of course, you have top dollar logistics (compact, very walkable, a bunch of foot traffic in Center City, strong public transit, etc); my God, I did about 10 approaches in just 1 hour in the Rittenhouse Square part of Center City on a WEDNESDAY night! Apparently, they have that Center City Sips promotion, but still, we're talking about a work night.

10 approaches in 1 hour is about a week's work in phony, low energy, sprawling, dead Los Mangeles!

Its great to hear good stuff about Philly. I am considering taking a trip there this summer and if I like it, looking for a job there.

Though I have never been, I've always felt that it could be a hidden gem (at least for America). I do strongly prefer compact cities, where you can walk around, people are everywhere, its easier to find girls, and the energy is overall more frenetic, compared to the sprawling car cities of the west where I've spent a lot of time.

Is Philly a place where you can move in your early 30s and make friends easily? Is it a younger city?

You’ll likely never get blown out by women here. Philadelphia is often named as a rude city.

Quote: (03-01-2013 01:06 AM)horn Wrote:

Bitch shields are very low/non-existent

I can't say I agree with either of these statements (except the rude part).

The bitch shields in Philly are slightly higher than those in NYC and significantly higher than those in LA and Chicago. I really like Philly due to the great quantity of women, foot traffic, and logistics, but the women here can definitely be very cold and unfriendly if you don't open with the utmost amount of confidence. I was blown out multiple times today (women completely ignoring me as I was asking them for directions, lol).

That would ALMOST never happen to me in Chicago, NYC, and phony Los Mangeles. That being said, I immediately adjusted by talking louder and speaking with a more "authoritative" tone while smiling, which solved that.

Basically, if the women in Philly smell any lack of confidence, they will keep walking, which is actually a good thing, because it forces you to strengthen your game.

Philly is clearly a ruder city than the average American city (I haven't been to every major American city but I've been to most) but that's not entirely a bad thing.

For summer time day game, go to the steps of the Art Museum. Filter out any of the tourists, (or not), they'll be obvious. Tourists and day trippers will walk up and down the rocky steps, but locals will be in work out gear running up and down the steps and in organized exercise classes. Last year a cool pop-up beer garden was on the parkway immediately in front of the museum.

Returning to the center city/Rittenhouse Square discussions. For night game the mix is usually 2/3 30's and 40's and up, and 1/3 college age or grad school/recent grad (U Penn, Drexel, and all the art schools in the cc area).

For the 30's and 40's women, this thread Gaming Women by Occupation- An Analysis is pure gold. The comments in that thread on lawyers, actresses/artist types, sales & marketing are spot on.

Any recommendations for neighborhoods that are good on weekdays? It seems like there's a good amount of outdoor stuff going on in the late afternoons, but I'm trying to figure out if it will be worth going out on weeknights since there's probably a better chance of pulling then than on the weekends when everyone and their mother is out.

City sips are Wednesdays afternoon, that should be time to go out if you work downtown.

On weeknights, probably gonna have to find out where the college kids are going, have no idea what good these days, but if something is going on, most likely in Old City, Fishtown or Gayborhood area.

However, since it is summer, the best places to go right now are down the shore. Sea Isle City, Avalon, and Wildwood should have something going every day during the summer. August 1 is basically the high point of the summer too down there. Id probably skip Wildwood...if you're under 30 go to Sea Isle, over 30, hit Avalon

Just checked out City Sips yesterday. Basically each Wednesday for about 3 months from June-August, several bars and outdoor drinking areas around Center City offer discounted deals and many people who work in the area go to those institutions. I also noticed that many of those people stick around the area for pretty much the whole evening and even into the early night to continue drinking. I was at City Hall for the early part of the evening and then checked out the Gayborhood early in the night. I did manage to get 2 numbers, but I'm not going to hold my breath. There's still some areas of this city (like Fishtown) that I haven't check out yet but will do so within the next few days.

Just thinking of the top of my head. Didnt go much before I left philly recently...The outdoor spots should be poppin in the summer.

Morgans Pier
Frankford Hall.
Independence beer garden.
Latter two are more sit down environments

Garage in Fishtown has big windows so its semi outdoors and pretty popular

Actually went to The Barbary once before I left. Chicks werent bad surprising. Fishtown is getting more yuppie and less hipster, probably explains the improved quality.

EDIT in the past the higher end bars werent that great. Just not enough quality to justify the extra spending but that might be changing ive heard from friends

The quality has gone up significantly in Fishtown/NoLibs from a few years ago.

If you're looking for college/just-out girls Manayunk is a great place. Any of the college bars in W.Philly will have the Penn/Drexel girls and their friends.

South Philly is the newest 'hot' area with really good food and cheap drinks these days. Gonna be all types of girls down there, but definitely many Italian and Latinas.

The Chinatown area has gotten better and better and all races go there to eat but certainly if you want Asians hit the restaurants and bars there.

A lot of the best 20s-early 30s talent passes through Rittenhouse either during daytime or hits the bars/lounges at night. It's more expensive so you get better quality and way less frat bros. If you're confident and well-dressed, you will kill it here vs Fishtown which is more hipsters.

If you are looking for the easy, 30s-40s divorcee type crowd, Rouge later on is the place.

Parc always has a crowded bar and outdoor seating, one of the best burgers/steak frites in Philly. Amazing king crab legs.

Vernick is the best food in town, if not on the East Coast that won't kill your wallet.

Get the duck fat fries at Village Whiskey.

Devon has overpriced seafood but usually some women there worth talking to at the bar.

Any of the Trias has wine bar crowd you can pick up here.

Beer guys go to Monk's cafe or really any big beer place in town. People love their beer here.

Raven lounge still gets a nice, eclectic crowd and girls are usually willing to talk and there's multiple floors. Lots of college girls here.

During CC Sips on Wed nights [ending now] any place will be packed with talent.

Many sports bars in town that almost always will have some girls in them. Tons of outdoor drinking spots also. Olde City def has some good spots but I don't go there enough. National Mechanics is still going. Trilogy is open late [3am on weekends].

Philly area is the most underrated big city for both quantity and quality of talent that can be easily picked up if you have solid game, imho. Logistics are easy for getting around. Girls come here from NJ/Delaware, all the major suburbs to go out.

Plenty of hot, white sorority girls, asian girls, latinas, black girls whatever you like. More colleges per capita than anywhere in the country and many stay for grad school: Nova, Penn, Drexel, La Salle, StJoes, PCCO, Univ Arts, Jefferson, Chestnut Hill, Bryn Mawr, Temple, PCOM, Curtis, Pierce, Restaurant school, Art Institute, Haverford, Swarthmore, et al are all walkable or a short train ride/uber away.

Daygame is better here than many cities. Most girls are approachable at La Colombe, sitting in a park, walking through their urban campus, waiting in line for dim sum, and there's always lots of tourists from the Art Museum to Constitution Center and all the stops in between.

The very hottest girls here are as hot as anywhere else in the country, although of course much fewer than you see in NYC. Many of them will be at the Jersey Shore on weekends in the summer. However, when school starts up again, it's a bonanza. If you have your logistics and look on lock, and can spit decent game, you will pull a cute college/grad school girl if you want to. Bitch shields are lower than NYC but higher than, say, Miami. Cheaper to go out than either.

While I do agree that there are many nightgame opportunities here, I think it can be tougher to pull quickly if you're solo. Another poster (godzilla I think) has previously mentioned that ONS's don't seem to happen as quickly as they would in say, NYC. This I think, is because of the social circle effect that's very present. Many people in Philly grow up in the area, go to school in the area, and stay in the area (a good number still living in the suburbs). The return of students will add another dynamic but students come with their own unique challenges since they're in a very concentrated social bubble.

NYC definitely has more opportunities for ONS than Philly. Another reason it's the Greatest City on Earth.

As far as the 'locals' issue it is quite similar to cities like Chicago or Pittsburgh in that regard. Frankly, I see it as an advantage when picking up that I didn't go to college here. You're immediately regarded as 5x more interesting and twice as dangerous [in a good way]. Plenty of girls also are going out in Philly from suburbs, Main Line, NJ/Del and aren't necessarily looking to return home in a couple of hours.

The co-eds here will sleep with you as fast as anywhere else. They're very often looking for a guy outside the social circle to bang on the DL. I can attest to this with dozens of hi-quality girls over the past 4 years, both undergrad and grad school. Most sorority girls I've met joined for an instant social circle at 18-19 and then ended up hating it, definitely exploit that.

I wouldn't presume to lecture on what it's like for a black man although it *is* a minority-majority city, but for a successful, straight white guy, opportunities abound both day and night.

--Also, is she from south Jersey? Instadate to Atlantic City - a guaranteed bang if she's down for it!

I can speak to that having just moved to SW Center City last month. It's not easy, bro. Lol.

Mostly white girls you will see out and about. But before any black guy reading this starts celebrating... Since it's not Minneapolis or the fast-paced NYC jungle, it's a tad-bit harder to sell the ladies here on going that route. Granted, I haven't put in a Herculean effort in this short time.

However, a white guy with decent game can definitely clean up here. Beautiful streets/parks. A lot more conducive to approaching.

I've only been here for two months, but I'm definitely noticing some elements of separation and segregation here between the ethnic groups. If you're a black guy who isn't really into black women (like me), social circles and maybe day game seem to be the best way to go. Night game here isn't like in New York where you have people that come from everywhere and are more willing to mingle with others. Here in Philadelphia, there are a lot of people from the city and outlying suburbs who have been around since growing up and have no intentions of going anywhere. The people are more insular and tend to stick among themselves as a result. I think there are a few pockets that are exceptions to this (universities and maybe Fishtown), but what I've described above is the overall sense I'm getting.

Interestingly enough, I've been able to pull a few dates from online apps with a few black girls but they all tried to play the same game of holding themselves out as "good girls". One of them deserves a story that I should probably put in the Player's Lounge at some point.

Boyos someone needs to update this cause all the top notch spots in the OP are shut down. I’ve been living here for 2 months and in my opinion the city is straight garbage for going out. I have top tier logistics (center city apt) etc also the dating apps are a standard deviation worse than nyc. I was literally averaging 4 (or more if I wanted) dates/wk in nyc and down to 1-2 max here. I also just leave every weekend now and go to nyc or fly to some other town / Canada or Mexico bc of how lame it is here.

Please correct me if I’m wrong and point me to some good spots here. It’ll save me a bunch of airplane tix money. I wanna pick up 18-25 y/o chicks. Where should I go? Also lol at someone mentioning tria it’s literally just tables it’d be terrible spot to game (great date spot).

What are some bars where people are mingling and I can approach.

I didnt mention Tria but I understand why someone did. Its a verrry popular spot for the rittenhouse females to chill for a drink.

Fishtown was bad? Fishtown is like Williamsburg now, so people from Center City go there kinda like how people from Manhattan are now going out in Williamsburg.

Philly is college town. Temple, Penn and Drexel are like 80,000 students. I can't imagine you can't find 18-25 there.

I agree though, thought nightlife has gone way down hill. Felt like the Tinder effect might of hit Philly the worst plus there were always lots of hipsters. Its now date/craft beer bar scene.

I visited for a night last weekend actually and hung out around the gayborhood. Bars around 12th and sansom was slower then usual but doable.
