"Modern Manliness and the Perpetual State of Low Expectations"

Quote:Quote:

"To one extent or another, I’ve been a party to this culture of low expectations. Part of the reason I was able to spend years rationalizing away my self-indulgent lifestyle and disinterest in committing to a serious, long-term relationship is because 90 percent of the guys I knew were as well (for various reasons, admittedly). In my case, I was having fun and getting to spend my time, money, and energies on Numero Uno. Despite the fact I’ve always been considered–mostly by myself–to be “manly,” the direction I was heading in, and vision I was heading toward, was one that men of my grandpa’s generation would rightfully shun and publicly shame.

I’m not talking about some fabricated, fake “machismo” where dads need to be calling their sons sissies if they don’t like to hunt or fish. I’m talking about a re-establishing of what qualities and characteristics both men themselves and the women they want to end up with actually esteem in adult males.

Men have to take the lead on this. I had to in my own life, and although some of the effects of my extended adolescence still linger, it’s made all the difference."

He makes some decent points but he ignores the elephant in the room. "Committing to a serious, long-term relationship" is simply not worth the risk, financially, legally, what have you.

And his "solution"?

In my grandpa's day, women didn't vote or work. Non sequitur argument using grandpa. Yet another "man up" white knight.

The only reasons you should think about your grandpa:

1. He killed a lot of other men in war, turning him into a badass. Hence you respect him.
2. He is a patriarchal leader. Hence you should respect him.
3. He seems happy and has good Game in old photos. Hence you should listen to him.
4. He knows a trade, which is disappearing. Hence you should learn from him.

If you are nonjudgemental with your grandpa, chances are you can chat about women and the happier things in life.

Eh, he never really makes his point except the notion that men need to be men again, which he seems to be hinting at is being in a long term serious relationship. Except if he's appealing to some type of traditional masculinity this will be chastised against by feminists as patriarchal and oppressive.
