Knowledge vs Practice

Recently interacting with some teenagers I realized something: they knew a lot of shit, in some instances they knew more than me BUT yet they were a lot dumber than me in every way. And when it came to execution they were practically useless. They knew all about the knowledge but none of the reasoning and intelligence that created it. So what exactly does this mean to readers of this forum?

You can read every single post on here and you can read it twice and then go out and read every book you can find on game and women BUT if you don't go out there and try to apply the knowledge (practice) it won't make much difference in your life. You will be like those teenagers: all knowledge but no real life experience, which is what truly creates intelligence. If you only had 8 hrs in a week to improve your game, you would be better off reading for two hour and practicing what you have read for 6 hrs than the other way around. (I have a feeling for a lot of people it's the other way around.) It is only when we practice, attempt to apply knowledge in real life, that we truly internalize and learn it.

Worse, too much knowledge can actually be bad thing. It can create uncertainty by presenting conflicting points of view - should I be direct or indirect. You find yourself spending more time thinking about what to do that than actually doing anything. Neil Strauss talks about this in his book The Game. He said at one point I realized I had enough knowledge, now I had to go out there and apply it. You will be better served if you just read one book and send the rest of the time just becoming proficient using that knowledge than reading many of them.

True skill and proficiency only comes from practice. We learn by doing not reading. Roosh talks about this in his Bang book too. So yes, it's a point I thought was so important than I am just re-emphasizing it here.

I'm just going to reiterate everything your saying based on my own recent personal experiences. I'm starting to notice how I'm becoming the dominant person in a group setting, how girls are more feminine and submissive in my presence even when I'm not trying to game them, boyfriends orbiting around their girl and kissing, touching or hugging them when I'm around, etc.

I'm still new but I'm heading in the right direction and 90% of it is thanks to Roosh, Bang and these forum members... Best part is this is only the beginning for me.

Knowledge vs Practice

Knowledge is nothing without understanding. It's something that bothers me about modern teaching practices more than most stuff. A kid gets taught that, for instance, the derivative of x² is 2x. The kid can now differentiate x², and soon begin to apply the same function to similar scenarios, id; dx³/dx = 3x², etc.. What I saw happening, though, was students would start going "what the fuck, why are we doing this, this is pointless, we're never going to use this bullshit," because they had no understanding of the principles behind and for the process.

I'm not sure what the teaching is like these days, but from what I read in The Game, the pickup industry ran on similar principles - "use these lines, stand like this and make your face look like this, don't ask questions, just do it because it works." Eventually the students either start finding success through sheer luck or just give up and write game off as black magic pseudo-science and luck. The ones who do find success often just become robots, repeating the exact same routines over and over again. What these students would probably find, is that, although they're picking up women, they still don't get respect from anyone, their relationships are hollow, and they'll still be empty and alone regardless of how many women they plow through.

What needs to happen, is for people to apply a thorough understanding of the principles behind what they're doing in a way that allows them to react with success in any situation. Someone who touches a girl's face whilst maintaining eye contact, then moving in for the kiss, because they genuinely feel confident, in control and want to kiss her will find greater success and on a far more regular basis than someone who learned "after x minutes, if you've gone through stages c1, c2, and s1, lightly touch her, look her in the eyes and go in for the kiss."

Practice without knowledge is a much slower process, but it generates a much more genuine understanding, or at least application, of the techniques you develop. To speed this process up, it is indeed helpful to read and learn the findings of others, but, outside resources should be used in a way that helps your understanding of how and why your actions are bringing you either success or failure.

To summarise, a solid understanding of the principles behind the knowledge is much more useful than knowledge itself. This understanding is best developed and internalised by practising. As it turns out, knowledge is completely useless without applying it, so practice is the more important factor here. Knowledge should only be used as a tool to aid the application - your end goal should never just be to "know how to pick up women," you should be aiming to actually pick up women.

Knowledge vs Practice

Ive missed out on a couple of girls in life by thinking too much. Ive pulled and smashed some chicks i never thought i would by just going caveman and instinctive. When I played football, one of the things I remember my coach telling me was "Son, just play. Dont think. You practice and then on game day you play....you dont think. Just play". I eventually had to apply that same ideology to getting women. Ive always been an introverted, thinking man by nature. Constantly pondering over and analyzing the hell out of situations. Sometimes it has worked in my favor and other times in life it hasnt.

In the end you gotta just play the game and not think so much. Go with your gut because if you've studied and analyzed enough during down time, you dont need to do that during game time. Being slow on the draw will fuck you more times than not.

But Gio, isn't knowing what a woman's pussy feels like because you're currently plowing through it much better than imagining that your hand is her vagina? I suppose if your imagination is that good you wouldn't have to bother chasing pussy, but still..

I think you are misunderstanding the meaning of Einstein's words.

Imagination is more important than knowledge because imagination allows man to push beyond the boundaries of what is known to be possible.

This underlying belief system that "anything is possible" can be applied to anything. In terms of science, it is about breaking preconceived boundaries. For thousands upon thousands of years, man wanted to reach the stars, but knew he could not. Then fast-forward to now, we put a man on the moon, and soon enough a satellite of ours will reach interstellar space (go outside of our solar). Man knew such things were impossible for thousands of years, but someone in the world imagined that it was, and then went on to make it possible.

For players, I think it is about believing that you can get what you want out of your sex life, even if it is not where you want it to be right now.

It depends on the situation. Most of the time, sex is better then masturbation, but, some of the time, sex gets us in trouble -- and we wish we would have just stayed home and jacked off. Getting a girl pregnant, getting an std, banging a fattie when we're drunk, etc. Some sex we wish we never had.

The Einstein quote is explained by All or Nothing.

Gio - that's actually last reason!

Ten Reasons Why Masturbating Can Be Better Than Sex

1. Your hand doesn’t talk back. It doesn’t bitch and complain or ask to be on top. It doesn’t text you at three in the morning asking you to come over. Your hand doesn’t yell. It doesn’t bum you out and make you cry to “Wonderwall” alone in your room. And it’s certainly not going to ask you to pay for dinner.

2. Which brings me to my second reason: masturbating is 100% free! If you think sex is free, then you’re clearly not thinking hard enough. Sex is not free. Sex is a cab ride to the middle of nowhere at five am. Sex is oysters, alcohol, a new pair of jeans. Sex is expensive for everyone (not just Charlie Sheen).

3. You’re the one steering in the boat. Oftentimes having sex can feel like a compromise (oh, you want it that way? okkayyyy fine). When you’re jacking off, it is all about your wants and needs. Don’t want to take your socks off? You don’t have to! It’s your fantasy, mister! You call all the shots.

4. Fantasies are what makes masturbating so fun. Sure, you can roleplay and dress up in the bedroom, but there’s a limit. Your boyfriend is never going to be the English teacher with the tight ass you wanted to bang in eleventh grade (no matter how many desks you have sex on) and your girlfriend is never going to be that hot girl in the laundromat you saw one day five years ago. Who knew that the laundromat girl would end up being the masturbatory gift that kept on giving, by the way?

5. Do you miss the best sex you ever had? Well, it’s still here waiting for you! Using the power of your mind and hand, you can revisit your sexiest moments. Sometimes I feel weird about masturbating to people I’ve already slept with but I get over it. After all, there’s no shame in the self-pleasure game.

6. You can often have better orgasms. Who can do you better than…you? That’s why I always pass on handjobs. It’s like “Please do something to me that I literally cannot do already myself. I am usually so limited. There are a myriad of different ways you can get me off that I could never do as a solo star.”

7. It’s empowering! A good masturbation sesh is amazing “ME” time. Screw going to lunch and the movies alone. Go home and screw yourself. I don’t trust people who don’t masturbate. If you can’t get down with your private parts, you’re going to be no fun when you’re getting down with someone else.

8. You rarely will be disappointed. If you don’t have the orgasm of your liquid dreams, you have no one to blame but your lack of sexy imagination.

9. You can go to your sexy #dark place. I swear, I’ve felt more Catholic guilt over my masturbation fantasies than what I’ve actually done during sex.

10. You don’t have to wear a condom, worry about getting pregnant or acquiring an STD. I saved the most obvious for last. TC mark

The ideas of knowledge, theory on practice fits even in my career. In practice, you have to be able to adjust and tweak when needed. Most of the time, theory does not teach you about adjusting, adapting and tweaking.

Very true. The ability to adjust to a girl in real-time can only come from experience.
