Cowboy bebop was a seriously good show. Spike was a classic alpha male, as was Jet. It was a damn good show. Made in the late 90s.

As was ghost in the shell. GITS stood out for me not only because its supporting cast was relatively varied, balanced, and well written, but also because the main character managed to have the proper "tough chick" formula--still weak at times, still feminine, not abrasive. Also the style (certainly in the movies) was an obvious influence of films like the matrix

Didn't care for Evangelion. It seems that pretty much all the animes after maybe the late 90s turned gradually into wussfests. But that mirrors a lot of media. I mean, in the 90s, you have stuff like "Unforgiven", and now we have...what? Our "action" movies usually have no character development, just some stunts. An hour of michael bay blowing CG shit up, for $14 a ticket.

This famous scene, in 2013? Oh hell no. And anime's just reflecting this. The Chibi stuff comes from the Omega japanese males really just wanting to be women because it's easier, no different from the My Little Pony loving beta herbs.
Nowadays' anime's just gotten stupid.

I was in the process of looking for that pic. But yeah, basically this sums it up.

Akira was the best. GITS - doesn't get better that that. But it already started there with the main character being a female battle droid. Since about 2000 it's been steadily downhill. I maybe watch one anime a year now - if that. It's all beta crap as you guys have pointed out.

Dude, we are so in sync on this, it's scary. The music was awesome in Cowboy Bebop and the mood was so perfectly done.

And yes, as I said already GITS was great. Did you watch the Laughing Man series?

GITS is pretty good as it is Cowboy Bepop.

Anyone knows "Alexander" and "Excel Saga"? The second had an "arrested development" kind of humor but was even more experimental...
