Yes as everyone here knows, I hate the city I'm in but I'm stuck here for 3-5 more yrs. I got it in my head that instead of dropping $1000/mo on rent, I can buy a home and pay the same on the note then sell in 5 years when I move.
I want to get something that's in a good part of town (read: no hoodlums) and I can fix up over the course of several yrs so that it will appreciate in value. Maybe rent the spare room or two or put it on airbnb.
How do I go about this? Real estate agents? Classifieds? Are there real estate networking events where I can meet buyers/sellers - how do I find out about these?
What do I look for in the house to use as bargaining leverage to lower the price? e.g. perhaps there is hidden mold, or the electrical is old, or something?
I love learning new things and this would be exciting. Are there good picture books on this (I learn more from pictures and their captions than text lol).
Other tips on where to start?
