College degrees

Ironbound: NYC is a tough place to land a gig. As others have stated having a degree is 1/4 of the battle. Where you get your degree is just as important if not more. I am assuming you will be transferring to a 4 year school? It's very important to at least be on the same playing field as others.
The other half is connections. The best opportunity to make some are by working at hospitals or volunteering.

As for enginneers, I can say that as long as your company has offices/labs in other countries then there is always a chance they will ask if you want to transfer or you can request it.
Automobile companies routinely transfer people abroad or for short term visits to other countries.
If you're a CPA/engineer/some sort of finance then there is a chance. My close friend works for GM as a CPA when they started GM financial he was asked to transfer to Brazil. He left iediately of course.

As far as graduating college and picking up and moving to a country to find work..well it's a lot more difficult then it seems. Not including education you will be at a disadvantage when it comes to language, contacts, and students who graduated from within a country. I know of a girl who graduated with me and went to Thailand to work as an engineer. I asked her if it was possible for me to do the same. She said no, why?
I'm black( lol)
Language issues
Work visa issues (she has a Thai and USA VISA)

So if I were anyone, I would work for a large international company, get fluent in their native language, study abroad in the location they want to.

Rmemeber this, you are selling yourself. Not only are you trying to make yourself look good but your competing with others who are natives.

I do Psychology and I study in England. I have the time of my life an I absolutely love my subject. But every body has his own preferences so do what you love and what will include enough money to live the lifestyle you want
