Shoveling Snow

If you guys live in a winter climate and there's snow on the ground, go make some cash!

Shovelling snow isn't the easiest job, but it's not a bad way to make a little extra cash. All you need is a sturdy shovel, and maybe a bag of salt.

Charge $10.00 per half-hour, or $20.00 per hour. As long as there's not ice on the ground, it's easy to knock out someone's sidewalk and front steps in half an hour. Shovel the sidewalks and steps, lay down some salt, collect the cash, then go to your next client.

You can make $100-$150 per day doing this if you stay busy. Of course it only lasts as long as there's snow on the ground.

How To Get Business

Place an ad on Craigslist with your name and phone number.

Get to know everybody within a few blocks of where you live. The elderly are usually happy to pay someone to do this.

I know most of the landlords that own rental properties in my neighborhood, a lot of them are happy to have someone shovel the sidewalks around their property.

Post flyers or business cards in local coffee shops or convenience stores.

Not a bad gig. In high school my rich neighbors would pay my brother and I each $40 bucks to shovel for them. But they did live on a corner lot and only called when we got 18 inches of heavy snow.

I would much rather shovel than work at a minimum wage job. And craigslist is one of the best places to advertise. Find a rich neighborhood that isn't filled with kids and you're set.

No you get up early and walk the beat knock on doors and bid the job on the spot unless you have a plow and a route established. Get a cheap reliable snowblower like a toro 2 stroker. You don't get enough snow there to need a big two or three stage.

Get one of these from a yard sale or criagslist

The trick is to get there before people have to shovel their own car out of the driveway to get to work so move fast and you should be done by 11 am or so. If you want to keep rolling target the old people after who don't really need it done but they pay less.

I did this my entire childhood and had a willys jeep with a plow by the time I was 15.

During a reasonably light snow at the beginning of the season, get up at 4 am and shovel (for free) the driveway of all the elderly neighbours on your street. Leave a flyer in the door. Great way to make clients.

That's a lot of hard work. I don't think so. It doesn't snow enough where the OP lives to do that.
