Interesting view on whether learning the language helps with girls

http://www.girlschase.com/content/how-get-foreign-girls

Although I have seen guys that hooked up in foreign countries without knowing the language, I never entertained the thought that forgoing the language could actually improve your results. I'm very curious what you guys think of this. It seems counterintuitive.

Primates females are known to get a good proportion of their sex through illicit fucking outside of their troupe.

It's true, different rules apply if you are an outsider. It even helps just to be from out of town within your own country.

The writer of the article elucidated this dynamic well, without reference to monkeys, and distilled the essence of "retain your out of town advantage".

The girl I live with now spoke almost no English when I met her. We got by using Google chat. After 7 consecutive years in Indonesia, I still don't speak Indonesian. I think I could do much better here if I did, but I agree with the guys mindset of just remaining an outsider. It's also a stance I'm psychologically comfortable with, and actually prefer.

I think the article (or sales page) was great food for thought, and the approach can definitely work, but I think it ignores the fact that the best-looking, highest-quality women in any given country are essentially beyond the grasp of foreigners, especially foreigners who stick to foreigner crowds and never learn the language. This is pretty clear in most places you go and is an observation echoed by many people on this forum who live in different locations around the world.

Just look at the women most foreigners spend time with and compare them to top shelf in that country. Let's face it, foreign men who don't speak the local language typically get the bottom of the barrel; although many do seem very adept at convincing themselves of otherwise.

On another note, he tries to shame guys who go abroad and try to integrate or learn about the local culture and customs, but not everyone goes abroad just to chase women. Some of us actually want to learn something about human nature and ourselves, and this is hard to do when you are already convinced that you've got everything figured out and aren't willing to let down your guard and try something new.

Beyond All Seas

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe.
To be your own man is a hard business. If you try it, you'll be lonely often, and sometimes
frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself." - Kipling

I definitely started getting higher level attention once my Indonesian got fluent. It's easier to make them laugh and keep them interested. Most of the girls I've known who spoke decent English are either snobby princesses or hoes, besides a few college girls.
Never felt in danger of not being considered an outsider since it's such a racist society.

Oh, you are in Indo too? Ya, SE Asians are insular in general, and are racist against even out of towners. Provincial. But have you compared them to other groups in the region? I've found that in some places in Indo if I'm walking down the street they'll call me over to join them in a drink, and try to have me sing along to their guitar playing. Very open and friendly in some places. And the high so's still marry Bules - so that says a lot.

I finished typing this response earlier, but then my power went out so here goes again:

Local language skills are overrated if it's solely being used for compensation in substitute of bad game. Presenting yourself fashionably, with great hygiene, non verbal game, and great body posture is irreplaceable.

However, the guy isn't 100% correct as foreign language skills on top of game really DO go a long ways whether it pertains to the local environment you're in or not. Knowledge in form of foreign languages is empowering any way you put it so for this guy to dissuade his audience into not expanding horizons is quite ignorant.

Keep in mind this guy is predominantly referencing instances where a fairly attractive white male is going into Asia while swooping up chicks without knowledge of local language, which isn't rare to begin with...esp if it's a Jewish guy, haha.

One Instance Where Foreign Language Skills Backfired
Mexico City last weekend, I was in the middle of a extremely crowded bar moving forward in a pack. Outside of the pack on dance floor, I notice a cute girl so as I'm moving forward slowly, I reach my arm out to her shoulder to balance myself while of course using it as an excuse to initiate as I eye the chick. She eyes me back and asks "where are you from?" Things go well at first as I realize she's from Argentina. It all kind of went downhill when I decided to get fancy speaking not only Spanish to her but using Argentine slang such as "portena" and "vos sos." My Spanish is not nearly as strong as my Portuguese so the music got louder as we struggled hearing each other, etc. That's one case when I should've stuck to speaking English while repeating myself slowly.

One Instance Where Not Knowing a Foreign Language Backfired
Santorini, Greece Casablanca Soul Bar - The place was filled with great live music and a ton of hot Greek chicks who were digging me but spoke no English at all. The night after, my friend let me know words such as "kisses" and "you're beautiful" in the local language could've escalated things really quickly, but all I knew was "yassu" which lead nowhere.

Instances Where Knowing a Language Helped
My dance moves, style, and nonverbal cues got me a hookup with a chick in Brazil Dec 2011 who spoke very minimal English only bc I could converse for long periods of time in Portuguese. My ONS there was already with a chick who spoke English, but the most attractive women in that country speak Portuguese only.

This past August, I was conversing with two girls at a bar in NYC about how I was going to relocate to Brazil and modestly mentioned by Portuguese skills. Next thing you know, one gal's ex-bf from college came out of nowhere to say hello. They introduce me to him, vice versa, and we ask where we're from. Once he replied "Brazil," I immediately said "de que cidade vc e?" We eventually conversed for the next 10 mins in Portuguese as the dude bought me a beer. Said "yeah, that girl was my ex..but..she's single now (hint hint)." The girls were impressed by how we were conversing as the ex-gf was interested, but the other chick cockblocked so it eventually lead to nothing.

It also felt amazing showcasing my Portuguese to local women in Austria/Poland when encountering Brazilians as they thought "who is this North American Asian guy conversing in Portuguese?" My two lays there ended up having nothing to do with my Portuguese, but it could've helped given the right scenario either way.

When it comes down to gaming the most attractive women in each respective country, the local language rules vary but game of course is the common denominator for pulling.

In places like Finland, Poland, Slovakia, language skills could help but all you really need is good gaming strategy as being Latin, Asian, or darker looking wouldn't hurt either. Same applies if you're a taller white dude in Asian countries.

In other places such as Brazil, Spain, Columbia, or Greece, a bit of knowledge in local language really is kind of needed. In Brazil, fluency is needed and especially in a city such as Vitoria/Belo Horizonte based on testimonies I'm seeing in this forum. Greece a bit of local slang might help as there are still a ton of drop dead gorgeous women there speaking fluent English. Spain yes with Spanish, but I imagine you might be better off with just English in say Barcelona as they possess the Catalan pride there.

You're right xsplat, the racism isn't always expressed negatively, especially when it comes to whites. Black guys and Chinese are discriminated against, generalIy. I grew up in the urban mid-Atlantic, and yet the first time I heard someone non-black casually use the N-word in person was from my Indonesian tutor.

To your last point, there was actually a celebrity, forgot her name, who very publicly married a white guy and followed him to his Western European homeland -- only to find he was a carpenter, so she ditched him and returned in (shameless) shame.

Any self improvement that is not done specifically to get girls can only have a net gain

I have seen that similar story many times over.

Some 15 years ago when air-companies started doing direct flights from europe to northeast brazil, a number of girls of middle/upper-middle class families thought they were finally given the chance to meet their euro prince. So theyd marry go to europe and find out the guy was some blue collar worker and their living standard would be much lower, plus the kicker of crappy weather and unfriendly people...

More to the topic none of those guys spoke any portuguese
