Excellent article by RSD on the language barrier and pick-up in foreign countries

Check it, yo, good stuff. Here's something that definitely resonated with what I've heard from Roosh and others on here:

I remember when I was in Paris, I had a client who was Austrian, knew English well, and had been studying French so was fairly fluent in French as well. The problem he kept running into was that when we were out in Paris, he would switch into French if the girl didn’t know English well.

It’s definitely a case by case basis, but can you see the dilemma. Who is in their head and who is outside their head? Who is reacting to who?

It may seem counter-intuitive but sometimes it is almost more beneficial to continue using the language that you are more familiar with even if the girl can barely understand you because it forces her to think more. It also gets her investing in the interaction.

great article. rsd is one of the top companies in the dating game. one thing he touches on but doesn't really get too much into is finding the balance between keeping your frame (speaking english) and logistics when the girl actually doesn't speak passable english.

In most of europe, if she "doesn't speak english", it literally means that; she cannot create sentences in english. But she will understand what you say. You may have to slow down, or use simpler words even.

Eventually she'll get at ease and speak more comfortably.

I also liked what he said about Scandinavia, it's something that I keep hearing over and over. I think that area of the world isn't too popular with guys on here because a lot of you are either looking for places that have a low cost of living because you're on a budget or you think that it being a relatively poor country will give you an advantage when it comes to pick up (I really don't think it does, you'll have an easier time picking up in Germany or Japan than you will in Argentina or Colombia, for example).

I shared similar sentiments in the past

You’re on a first date with a fine Colombian girl who knows just about the same English as you know Spanish. It’s a toss up as to who speaks each other’s language better. Should you speak in English or Spanish during the date? Think carefully through the reasoning.

Correct answer: Speak in English. When you speak a foreign language you’re not fluent in there will be many moments of frustration where you can’t express yourself properly. This leads to feelings of inadequacy, which you want her to experience instead of you. She will be looking inward to her own failure instead of your possible flaws. You are her teacher guiding her towards the light. You are the authority figure. As long as she understands your jokes, you’re going to get some at the end of the date because she will be wondering if you still even like her after she was barely able to speak to you.

Shouldn't you at least speak some in her language though? I would have thought that it'd be a DHV if you can speak in her language.

Like maybe 10% in her language. Now I just speak in spanish because I want to learn the language, knowing that it subtracts points in the pickup area.
