My wonderful time in DR is up, so I thought I'd just post a quick perspective on this island. DR is already covered from all angles so bear over with me if this seems a little shallow. I'd recommend Elabayarde's, Ali's and Fisto's extensive threads on the topic as they basically cover everything you need to know - this is just a post to clarify some misconceptions and give an up to date perspective.
Night vs Online and Day
I'm into bar game. Because... Well, usually I get my needs covered from meeting chicks during night time. I'd say by all means go out during night. It's great fun and cheap compared to most places. BUT - do not expect to get notches this way. I got plenty of phone numbers, but during 6 weeks I only pulled two girls back from bars. I will add that I'm pretty much the exact type you'd expect to do well in latin america (light skinned caucasian, 6,3, blue eyes, advanced game), so I hope you get my point.
Why is this so? On closer analysis I rolled dolo a lot of nights, which is difficult here. Lot of girls in large groups, mixed groups etc. My spanish is only mediocre, which might influence things. Also in latin culture girls fear the slut label much more than in anglo countries. Therefore be smooth and subtle about your intentions.
Your best bet is to roll with a wingman and have tight spanish. I doubt that anybody will have huge success here only relying on night time action.
Online and day game is the way to go. And like already mentioned a thousand times here it's fucking easy. Hit Badoo, Tagged, Facebook, Dominican Cupid etc, flirt with staff in shops, restaurants. From then: get number, call, set up a date. Nothing fancy, a couple of beers and then venue change to your place to 'watch a video' or whatever your favorite excuse is. Once in the hotel room they are without exception DTF.
High Society Chicas vs Barrio Girls
The irony of all this is that the top class chicas I picked up here were during night time. My guess is they are more westernized sexually and are more able to appreciate refined young dudes as opposed to the miserable european sex tourists you see everywhere in Zona Colonial.
There has been some debate here as to whether it's is possible or not to get 'good' girls. It's definitely possible. You need a solid background story as to why you are in town though. You gotta seem like a long term possibilty. One of my chicas had close ties to the political elite here, studied abroad etc. A solid 9 according to respected forum members who have seen pics.
It's true that all pussies in the end are the same, but 80% of the time - when you are not fucking - it's nice to have somewhat intelligent conversation. My only barrio girl litterally couldn't point out Puerto Rico or Jamaica on a map.
Her explanation was:
- I was never taught! You travel much, so you are used to reading maps.
WTF?! THIS is the education level of the barrio girls.
Cities
I prefered Santo Domingo over Santiago, but to each his own. A lot of people think it's the other way around. I like the girls with some african blood in them, which more or less all girls in SD have.
Good places in SD:
Onnos - zona colonial. Westernized girls here, good patio with tolerable music volume.
Maio's - zona. See above, ditto.
Cafe de toi - zona. Best after hours place IMO. No pros here as opposed to the other late night options.
Avenida Venezuela - East SD: Club street in poor neighbourhood. Good fun, lots of talent, but extremely loud music without exception. You'll be out of place here if you're not a big dancer.
In Santiago get in touch with a guy like Rover who can tell you about the current hotspots.
I don't hold any hope that 3rd tier cities will be any good. Too small and you'll stand out too much.
Tourist hot spots are p4p places. Stay away unless you got other reasons to be there than chicas.
Haiti
When you're already there, Haiti might seem like the unexplored gem for the true adventurer. Well, I made there mistake of going there so you don't have to.
If you're not scared away, Caribe Tours got good bus connections to get there from both SD and Santiago. I did the Santiago-Cap Haitien trip, which costs 50 dollars each way. This is including the 20 dollars for immigration and visa fees.
Cap Haitien is actually quite beautifully located in a natural harbour with a huge mountain right in the background. Some stunning beaches as well.
The down side is that Haiti is more underdeveloped than most african countries. I thought 'how bad can it really be?' Now I'll tell you, no matter how adventurous you think you are, you don't want to go there. (no 'I could have told you's, please...)
Due to the lack of tourism and the big UN presence hotel prices have gone thorugh the roof and are outright laughable.
I stayed the in worst place in my life. After bargaining - that cost me 40 dollars a night. Imagine: Cockroaches, random power shut downs, no light bulb in bathroom, no water in zinc. I didn't even complain about these things cause I knew it would be useless.
Crazy thing is I checked out three other budget options which were around the same price, but looked even more trashed.
There is a place called Co-op in the same price range, which was fully booked when I was there, but judging from reviews this is the least shitty budget option in town.
There is only one club in town called Versailles (heads up to the naughty nomad!), but it is like a ball from the 50's. People sitting polite at tables, and guys asking girls to dance.
YOU WILL FEEL UNWELCOME!
But at least you'll have an experience for a lifetime. I tried my slimey moves there dolo, and actually spoke to a decent girl that I numberclosed. I couldn't wait to get out of town, so didn't get to follow up on that one.
I will add that I am conversational in french. Unless you're not - just forget about it.
Bottom Line:
Girl quality is miles behind DR, value for money: a joke, shitty nightlife. Just finding a restaurant is difficult and a cup of coffee outside a 3 star hotels is a mission in itself.
