Shit if people are leaving California, where are they moving to? I think the rest of the U.S. sucks, California is still by far the best state. There maybe other cool spots like Austin, but they are still surrounded by shit (Texas).
Lol have you even been to Austin or Texas? Your people are filling up Texas and start stuttering when I ask them why the hell they're here if California is a piece of heaven on earth. It seems like the only people who have an attitude about being from California weren't even born and raised there, only transplants. Everyone I've known who was raised there is cool as fuck and doesn't have a lick of hate in their blood.

Maybe not. Immigration from Mexico has been flat. There's fewer pressure on Mexicans to head north as they have a growing middle class. And Mexican women now reproduce at just a little above replacement level. I'm sure Mexicans like anyone else would prefer to live in their own country where they have ties to their family, heritage, history and all that stuff. I mean other than economic issues, why the hell would they want to come up here?

Yeah bro, I've spent a week in Austin a couple years ago, thought it was a cool town, could maybe see myself living there, but I guess I'm not "feeling the Texas vibe."

No diss on you, no need to take it personal. You ever been out west, or anywhere outside of Texas for that matter? Different strokes for different folks. You guys do have some nice women and good BBQ though, I'll give you that.

I think I read somewhere Mexico City @ least is one of the happiest cities in the world..or ranked top 10, etc. Whatever the case, I thought the city was amazing this past weekend as I can see why Mexicans would not want to leave their country/culture behind to head north.

Both LA to SF and LA to LV are supposed to happen. The LA to LV one, passenger, is only a recent development.

There are hundreds of thousands of people if not millions that go back and forth between these cities each year. If it happens, (without knowing the hard numbers) I hardly imagine it will be a waste of money.

The reason I think it's a waste is because all it effectively does is add the equivalent of a couple more flights to Vegas. But with a multi-billion dollar price tag. And even then, a plane ticket to Vegas from LA will only run you about $60 one way if booked in advance, and will get you there in 30 minutes. Unless you are simply scared to fly, I see no advantage that this train would offer. High speed rail might be more effective in small but high density countries like Japan or Germany. But America is just too large and spread out to give rail any advantage either price-wise or in convenience over flying.

What airline are you flying to get to Vegas for that price?

imagine for a second that you were back in the 1960s living in hollywood. and someone told you in 50 years people will be leaving this state due to high unemployment and taxes. and that same person told you instead americans are pouring into north dakota which has the best economy(lowest unemployment/state defict) to the extent that there isnt enough housing to fill demand.

would you have believed it?

Maybe more like 45 minutes wheels up to wheels down. They schedule an hour on the ticket but it's usually a bit early. Still way faster than any bullet train will get you there.

I just looked at Kayak, I saw $114 RT on American Airlines including taxes for departures leaving early January. And saw Spirit Airlines with $80RT. Can't imagine the train tickets being cheaper than $40 one way.

On top of that, if you don't mind bussing it, Megabus has fares to both Vegas and SF for $1 each way. No joke. If you book a few weeks in advance, it's only a dollar. I even went to the booking site and it's legit. Megabus has rave reviews on Yelp.

More people moved out of California in 2011 than moved in, according to the latest report from the U.S. Census Bureau, signaling that the Democrat-run state’s economic woes continue to drive residents away.

Most statisticians attribute California’s net loss of 100,000 people last year to its high cost of living, increased population density and troubling unemployment rate.

Just wanted to add this point:

If the trend of 100,000 people moving out (net) per year continues, then that will lead to significant population declines for Cali in the future (Ex. 1,000,000 decrease in 10 years).

Overall, this may be a good thing. So many regions of Cali are already overpopulated and/or overbuilt (LA/OC, SF/San Jose, etc..). As people move out, traffic will ease a bit and housing prices should come down.

Texas has some positives like its economy and the friendliness of its women, but large parts of Texas (especially the somewhat rural parts) are wastelands.

Also, since most of Texas is conservative (outside of Austin), G-Manefesto and OGNorCal have a point that the most of the cities in Texas aren't exactly a player's dream.

You're partially correct. The key is moving to a location close to big college. Ie Austin, Dallas, San Antonio would be awesome to do river walk game. But ya moving to west Texas not a good idea
