China trip impressions plus Beijing, Shanghai mini-datasheets

Xiu Bar did not cost anything on Tuesday, but I also went on Thursday and it had a 100 yuan cover for guys, which included 1 free drink. Girls did not pay cover and had 2 free drinks (ladies night) so it was worth it. A Corona was 50 yuan, I did not drink hard liquor because I had to work the next day.
Mix Club had a 50 yuan cover (so less than $10) and drinks were about same price as Xiu Bar.
Dive bars/small dance clubs in San Li Tun had much cheaper drinks and no cover to enter; just don't go to the main street with the tourist traps but one block west of it which has a lot better venues.

Thanks for the info man. I think I will first give Mix Club a try when I get there.

Local Chinese = Chinese people who speak very little English and are not Westernized.

Shanghai:

Best bars right now:
(in order of awesomeness)
Mook (ABC's, Foreigners, Local Chinese, Russians - perfect mix)
Horizon (Models, Local Chinese, Foreigners, Russians)
Hollywood (Russian models, Westerners, Westernized Chinese)
The Apartment (Foreigners, Foreign lovers)
M2 (Local Chinese with a mix of Foreigners, a place the Chinese go to get 'face' by buying tables....getting the really hot chicks here is very hard/close to impossible and you're better off hitting up Mook or day game)

Beijing:
Mix (Local Chinese, it's all about getting face, the hottttttttest girls go here, you get stars coming in too ( i once picked up a soap opera star here)

Mix is by far the best club in China in terms of hot women, it is also one of the hardest unless you have a table.
If you're going for average or trash women then it will always be easy, if you're going for the hotties expect to be cockblocked.

You can get into tables with Chinese guys, they usually only bring you in to make themselves look good to the girls rather than to actually try and help you get laid.

Vics (Foreigners, Foreigner lovers, Some russians, some local Chinese
Xiu (Lots of foreigner lovers, 2 or 3 lady boys, some hookers occasionally some local Chinese, pretty decent though as there are good Chinese girls there)
San Li Tun Dirty Bar Street (full of trashey English teachers, fat unattractive foreign girls and the bottom of the barrel when it comes to foreign lovers)

There is one rooftop bar in San Li Tun bar street which is decent, overall though its a complete shitfight.

It is a decent place for you to 'get your flag' if you manage to lower your standards a bit.

I remember the girls at Mix had some of the worst attitudes I'd encountered in BJ.

Another place worth visiting is Wudaokou 五道口, particularly the two clubs Propaganda and Sensation. This is where I picked up most of the girls I slept with in Beijing. Only downside is that it's crawling with foreign students and foreigner lovers, but I found it easier than Sanlitun, also the quality was much better. This is also a good place to pick up Korean girls and students.

The quality will be much better than the San Li Tun bar street, fo sho.

I avoided WuDaoKou as i always stayed in Chaoyang and it's ages away i.e shit logistics.

If you stay near WDK then it's pretty decent.

The girls are nowhere near as hot as the girls in Mix though, and yeah you're right that the girls in Mix have a 'poor attitude' i.e they aren't super impressed that you're a foreigner, that is a fair trade considering how much hotter they are though.

With some persistance, decent game and multiple attempts, you can pull really hot girls out of Mix.

I once ONS'd a girl from there in 7 minutes, I was staying in A Hotel inside GongTi, it was pure luck, logistics and leading.

I meant more that a lot of the people there, guys and girls, in general put out a pretty arrogant vibe, basically the spoiled rich kid attitude. This wasn't always the case though, and admittedly, my game was much worse back then than it is now (I had basically just started out), pretty much just basic numbers game until I got a bite. Also, my I didn't visit Chaoyang too often, considering my appartment was in Haidian District, making places like WDK much more practical.

Actually none of the girls in the areas mentioned above, (or to a certain extent, in Beijing as a whole) will be super-impressed that you're a foreigner, considering that foreigners in Chaoyang and WDK are like sand on the beach.

Another place you might want to try out in Haidian is a place called Landai 蓝带(?). It's pretty far from all the universities, and a good place to go if you want to get away from the other foreigners, as you'll likely be the only non-Chinese person there. Problem is most cab drivers have never heard of it, plus it's full of typical Chinese kitsch.

Yeah they do have a kinda arrogant vibe....that's pretty typical of places where people go to 'gain face' and 'be cooler', it's the same in M2 in Shanghai.

I spend most of my time in Mix in 3 places:

1. The dance floors
2. The stretch of bar between the main two dance floors
3. The entrance/couches outside (sometimes i don't even bother going in, you can sit on those couches or just hang around outside and game girls effectively enough) which imo are probably the best place.

The difference between WDK and CY is the economic status of the people in both, there are usually lots more 'rich Chinese' going to gong ti to party, so their reception of foreigners is different to the students you find in WDK.

What is Landai?

BTW Haidian mall was pretty good last time i went there (a year or so ago).

For DG i usually hit up SLT village as it's got lots of money girls.

Do you have any other Day Game places you'd suggest in Beijing?

Also I'm coming up there in almost exactly two weeks, so pm me ur wechat or something if you wanna meet up.

I imagine that given the face saving culture none of the girls explicitly told guys approaching to fuck off right in their faces. After all, there are places in the world where this is regular behavior. It would be good to distinguish between genuine rude and bitchy behavior in girls and them merely not being impressed by foreigners, so that the forum can get a more accurate picture.

Also, any of you guys know how much table service at these clubs cost? Should be less than back home right.

Girls in Mix will be cold or 'bitchy' or just outright ignore you some of the time, whereas girls in other places will be warm and happy to speak with you.

Table service starts at about 1500rmb I believe, It depends on various things such as night, table, who you know, how many bottles ect ect ect.

It will go from 1.5k for a small circle table with bar stools to about 10k for the best seats (I'm assuming the largest lounges are about 10k).

A lounge near the dance floor should go for about 3 to 6k depending.

Nowhere did I imply that. No one goes anywhere in Sanlitun, a place where foreigners are like sand on the beach, expecting anyone to be blown away by the fact that you're a foreigner. Also, I don't appreciate words being put in my mouth.

By 'shitty attitude', I mean they tended to be very arrogant, bitchy and unfriendly. Both men and women tended to put on this type of spoiled rich kid vibe, glaring at everything around them with this "you ain't shit" look on your face. This was visible in their body language even before anyone approached them. Again, not everyone was like this, but it was noticable among many.

You don't seem to know much about girls in Beijing. This 'saving-face' thing in China only really works in theory. People, especially in Sanlitun, don't give a shit about saving face. You'd be surprised how many people I've seen go off on each other in public in China.

True, Wudaokou isn't quite as seedy as Sanlitun, though the latter is much nicer during the daytime.

Also, if you go down the street to the right of Gongti, you also find a few Chinese clubs with no foreigners in them. They're not necessarily easier to pull in, but they're more laid back and they're nice if you want to get away from the tourist/sex tourist vibe dominant the rest of SLT.

Xidan 西单 is a pretty cool place to run daygame. In Haidian, I think Zhongguan Cun 中关村 is OK, plus the university campuses located around WDK aren't bad either. Chaoyang District is actually pretty good place for daygame during the daytime, too.

Also a great spot both for daygame and for bringing dates is Houhai 后海. Very cool place to go out to, even if you're not looking for women.

One place I would definitely NOT visit for the women is Wangfujing 王府井. This is the hangout of the infamous teagirls and other con artists.

Ya,

You can do this by just cheersing the guys (I don't think it's the greatest opener ever....and you definitely shouldn't cheers everyone in the room but it will at least get your intention across clearly and that in itself is very worthwhile) and they typically will drink with you and ask where you're from.

If you are friendly enough and they are interested they will offer for you to drink more with them, if you can pull girls to their table for them they will most likely be very happy and continue the party with you.

Sometimes they will just tolerate you for a drink or two and then make it clear for you to leave, some will just use you for face and make fun of you.

Some will be threatened by you and won't respond well, but the majority will so long as you are warm and friendly on the open.

If you are going in and immediately focusing on their girls...then they are gonna kick you out pretty quickly.

The best way would just be for you to buy a tray of shots and offer them drinks straight up (probably 100rmb) and befriend them the same you would normal people in a normal club, once they are 'hooked' you can ask about the relationships between people at the table and find out whose available, occasionally they will help hook you up with the girl.

Usually they will just cockblock you as they all suffer from massive scarcity.

The best advice i could give you would be to find a table without any girls at it, introduce yourself to the guys and ask them if they want to help you pick up girls, if they know the deal (as many guys go to the club and get a table just so they have 'value' to pick up girls') then they will be pretty happy to oblige.

I've only had one experience where i pulled 4 girls to a table of Chinese dudes and as soon as the girls were there and hooked they asked the waiter to tell me to leave and just cock blocked me from the set.

I personally find Mix quite friendly, that doesn't mean i don't get cock blocked there though....

I have to say that i haven't really experienced this....I've been to mix 20 or 30x.....

I've found people to be mostly happy and friendly in Mix, i've been there with no table, i've also been there while having the largest VIP room in the place....

So the face thing is what Chinese Society is hinged on, everything and i mean EVERYTHING revolves around it, that doesn't mean people don't make mistakes or don't make themselves lose face at some points...

Also Chinese people typically have pretty poor emotional self control so them going off in public isn't that out of the ordinary.....

Everyone in China does everything because of face and will fuck up their lives in various ways just to maintain face.

Maybe bitchy is relative, but you didn't answer my question in the previous post. Did they explicitly tell guys approaching who they didn't like to fuck off right in their faces? Cause it happens in the good ol USA. Just standing there with looks on their faces is only considered a "yellow light" to me.

I've been to BJ and other cities in China. I agree with Ilikekane. People aren't as reserved as in Japan, but almost everything socially revolves around face. By the way I like the data you're putting out. I haven't visited China in a decade; keep up the good work.

Do you have any links or further info for your statement about openvpn being shut down? As you might know, open vpn is a software that can be installed on any server, and the client that gets installed on the laptop or local machine communicates with it. I'm guessing if open vpn is trying to be blocked they'd be trying to block some default vpn ports - there should be no way to target that software in particular in any other way.

That club is hilarious, and worth a visit just for the fun of it.
But bring friends and get drinks (much cheaper than Vix), just enjoy the show, there are dancers and a program. If you try to pick up the girls, 90% of them will be pro's. Could be possible to "shore" them, not sure.
Quite tacky, quite a show just to be there - the interior design looks like it was done by Roman Abramovich's decorator:

Yeah I experience this a fair bit to. Its sad when you hear these sentiments from otherwise intelligent people. I taught some classes at a school for under 10s, the first day I walked in they had the beginner shouting, "WE HATE JAPAN, WE HATE JAPAN."

Quote: (03-18-2013 09:48 PM)Osiris Wrote:

The hate Japan thing is in 90% of them. Last fall kids had to go into school on Saturday and Sunday so they could attend a special "fuck Japan" class for two days.

Last week my students had the word "intolerant" as part of their vocab. I asked them if they knew anyone who was intolerant, they all said no. Then I asked if they thought they were intolerant of Japanese people. They all responded no. I was pretty sure they didn't understand the word or they were blind to their own prejudices, when one girl clarified that they weren't intolerant, because that means you don't like people because they're different. Japanese aren't people, so they don't count.

My mind was blown, that's not even racist, that's how genocide starts.

I've had random people come up to me on the street with their phone where they've translated something like "Diayou islands are historic Chinese area. You agree?"

He'll, one guy I know got 100rmb for shouting, "Fuck Japan!", from a drunk Chinese dude outside a club.

I tried explaining to a friend that back in the states we view China and Japan as pretty similar. They look similar, they use chopsticks, eat rice and noodles, use the same script, have famous martial arts, etc... That conversation did not go well.
