Hey people,

Thought I would contribute a little with my personal views and experiences from Rio.

The short version; dont go there unless you speak portuguese, which might not even validate the choice as there probably is better.

I have just come back from three weeks in Rio, where I was living in the apartment in Copacabana.

Took a diving certificate with Mar do Rio and the diving outside Rio isnt bad, we had 20 meters visibility!

The food
Is good, especially those eat pr kilo place, there is a really nice one on the first plaza(square) on the mainstreet piranha going trough Ipanema, also the ecological/organic place tropico in Ipanema is cool and cheap. Meat and fruits are good, try the brazilian grapes and Maracusha sucos and eat ACAII at the same plaza in Ipanema, some Amazonian store, its great and filled with antioxidants... their pizzas kinda suck, and their attempt to make sidedishes are mostly best descriped as varying degress of disasters, bread is the quality of white toast bread.
If you go to one of the malls in Leblon, the one with starbucks there is alot of nice eating places on top and the sushi place has the best view, plus that mall has alot of the most gorgeus women after 15 everyday.

Stuff to bring... all imported is 3-5 times more expensive... bring your own proteinpowder if you like to eat right or workout alot..

Nightlife

Liked it alot, Nice places; Melt (leblon), Nossa Senhora (best caperinhas!) (copa), Ditto feita (close to center)was the best place IMO, where there x2. Tuesdays its womens night and strippers turn on the women and then 20:30 the men get in... had some interest from gorgeous girls that then turned out to be there before a wedding ...(bla bla). Tried six (lapa) and hide away, six might be solid, but hide away..even for a sunday I have seriously never seen so many ugly people in one place I guess the name should have hinted the concept of uglypeople.com .
Emporio is a bar in Ipa, kinda nice and low key, and lots of foreing people exchange student, but very left wing-cheap feel to it, just like lapa, but pleasant

Dont like LAPA, some might do, I personally dont, was the most unsecure place in my eyes and it even more gutterish than the rest of Rio.

Missed a few places I cant recall the name of atm, will update when I do.

The beach.

Lovely, Ipanema is wonderfull and just as exotic and marvellous and you could dream of... (you can always add me of facebook if you wanna see pics). There is mostly turist people unless weather is good, then locals also comes. Mostly well trained guys.. and rarely any real hotties, but at least girls are approachable and alot speak english or at the least are friendly because they are not Rio women...
A chair not more than 3 reals, umbrealla tell them no more or tell them you got it for that price yesterday.. I even got one guy trying to hustle my afterwards with a "special" chair for 5.. I was just are you kidding me? and he got 3..
I bring my own water since those small bottles for 2.5-3 reals dont last for long. Sunsets are beautifull are truely out of this world..go there..enjoy the breeze, the people the tranquil mood... almost worth all the crap

The women of Rio:

In short they where teribly disappointing, both in terms of being just as stuck up as any bitches from my own western culture and in that mostly they wherent particulary hot or good looking. I got alot of interest of even the best looking chicas until they found out I didnt spooke portuguese... then it was game over instantly... with the few I found that spooke english they eventually flaked, probably because I was a shorm term gringo looking for fun, but might have been any of the following reasons didnt build enough attraction, didnt behave as aggressive as brazilian men does or seemed interested enough. The normal push pull doesnt seem to apply here, its more push push push, go for another girl push push!...

Best looking and truely amazing girls was found in my Ipanema gymn.. and some on the Leblon mal.. might be worth a more long term setup to nail one of those, these bitches are not easy game and def. requires a serious plan... but they are really the quality of women I came to Rio to bang, not many of them around and def. outstanding, I frankly just came too badly prepared and thinking my good looks and aloofness would get me laid.

I got approached though several times when out..even by a hot girl, but lacking portuguese skills left me with the kissing fast option, that I didnt exploit since the only hotty that I really felt for started weaving her engagement (or supposed) ring and saying in perfect english, I dont speak english, I dont speak german I dont speak italian... haha was almost funny she should learn the "go home and masturbate gringo"

But hooking up with some guys on this forum PePini, carlos and even the master jedi himself was cool and we had some good night out and think Pepini and his friend and I might go to Norway or meet another time..

Can def, recommend meeting people from this page and only give mad probs about Roosh and he got swagger and is a cool type (for a hippie).

On a side note I did, out of curiousity and lust for adventure a little pay to play..

Never had trouble with taxidrivers, never seen any violence, but the city is just bad version of an european one and is really not worth it, besides the beaches, its just expensive, ugly and noisy, plus that unsecure feeling eventually gets on your nerves if your from a secure place in the world...

Good write up.

You def need to speak Portuguese in Rio. And it really helps to know some locals. Id advise checking out small bars and befriending the bar owners/bartenders. They hooked me and my friend up numerous times. Def plus.

Im surprised you didnt like Lapa. It was the only place that i got noticeable attention from the females. Everyone is more down to earth there and all having a good time.

I never went to a brothel but i heard there are insanely hot females in there for cheap. I just resorted to picking up simi pros in copacabana at some bar across from the street for free most nights. After not having any success in normal clubs and bars id leave and head to copa and mack some simi pros and get them to leave to my place for free. Hot young chicks I might add.

Next time I come to Brasil ima learn better Portuguese and hit up another town with more down to earth chicks.

Wow, sounds like we visited two different cities!

granted, not all women in rio are smoking (especially if you are not into mulattas), but you'd definitely be able to meet some quality women if you just put in some effort.

Girls aside, just Rio in general is a place that must be visited. Crazy hybrid culture, beautiful scenery and probably the coolest and friendliest inhabitants you can imagine.

the only downside is that the nightlife is kinda expensive and there aren't that many really good clubs. I actually prefered Lapa street party to any of the upscale places I went.

Dont think Rio is a place to visit, I put an effort into warning danish people not to go there, dont think its worth it by any means, unless you come from a similar violent inequal culture.

and I like mulats.. but most of them are abit too fofa (fat) in Rio, seems like the lower social classes eat more junk than everyone else.

You're the only guy I've met that felt the women of Rio weren't good looking. That's a first. I think Rio is about as good as any city I've ever been to. That isn't to say every girl is hot or even most girls, but that's true of every city in the world. When looking at the raw number of hot girls compared to what you'd see in other major cities around the world, Rio is right up there amongst the top.

How much did you pay to play? Never got into that scene, not my thing. But I'm curious what they go for.

on a side note the carioca I hang out with most my trip was wonderfull and good looking, but think she was alot better than most women in that city, but didnt get to know any other well..

I can vouch for everything said by Quasi, except maybe for the pizzas (I like them with triple cheese layer).

The norwegian trip is definitely on. May or June when the weather gets warmer. My last scandinavian country to conquest.
I heard from a friend that a student town called Trondheim in Norway is the place to go.

Back to Rio I was only there for 3 days so I can´t make a solid report, but to sum up it wasn´t really what I expected. I guess it depends on your background.
Also I keep reading on this forum ppl saying that if only they would knew portuguese they would have bang so many Cariocas. No you wouldn´t. Girls in Rio are not easy wether you speak their language or not.
I´ve banged a Russian stripper in Prague basically with body language and the help of a quote from Roosh. EE girls are easy for latin guys.

My highlight of Rio was meeting Roosh with Quasi in Leblon shopping. When you meet Roosh you realise his for real.

Rio gives great postcards when you´re some place high. When you start to go down you realise how dirty and nasty it is. It was also bad weather, raining all the time so this might influence my judgement.

To be honest my biggest problem in Rio wasn´t the girls (although again in my opinion they are not easy), but more the fact that I just couldn´t be relaxed. That fucking cab ride from the airport to the city center where I passed by kilometres and kilometres of slums was I think the biggest cause. You have to look over your shoulder constantly. I´ve met some brazilians that told me they wanted to come to Portugal not for the money, but for the safety. All this safety shit made me paranoia. Basically I didn´t wanted to get caught speaking to the favela drug dealer girlfriend or jujitsu dude in some club. I have a friend that had been in Rio before me who knows me well (I´ve been to some club fights with him) that told me 10 times before I left "dude do not get in troubles in Rio, things there are differents". I already posted on this shit. The brazilian assholes in clubs were something to consider as they act like you´re their enemy, putting in front of you will you´re talking to a girl etc (Armanid is 100% right).

If I can give my two cents on how girls act in clubs, they will first make brutal eye contact from a safe distance. After slowly start dancing towards you. You have around 1-2 seconds to talk with her before some guy does it.

If I recommend going to Rio? Yes. You have to go there at least one time in your life. If I will be back in the near future? no.

Meaning the violence and criminality first hits people with less money.

People tell me that Rio is safe if you take precautions. How the fuck can something be safe if you have to take precautions?

What up, thanks for the trip report, I agree and disagree with you on various points, I spent about 11 days in Rio out of a 3 1/2 week trip in Brazil. First of all, you must not be crazy about latin women, because I think I saw more 10's in Rio than almost anywhere else in the world aside from maybe Turkey, Switzerland, and Santa Barbara (CA), that said I am a sucker for shorter women with fat asses, tan skin, and big tits. Most of the hottest women are in Ipanema/Leblon for sure, I thought the women in Copa were attractive, but Ipanema is on another level. My neck was starting to hurt from turning to check out asses every other second, and my balls were blue after a week of not getting laid, the terma visit is very understandable if you're not getting any.
In my 3 1/2 weeks there I only got one lay with a Brazilian women, she was a solid 8.5 in my book, half black, half native Brazil Indian, her family was from Salvador, but she was from Sao Paulo. In my experience, people I met from Sao Paulo were way cooler, chill, down to earth than the Cariocas, and they all speak pretty damn good English. I would agree that if you don't speak conversational Portuguese it is going to be hard for you to pull in Rio, the main reason why I didn't do more approaches and try to game more women, is that the first 5 girls I approached didn't speak any English, and basically blew me out when I tried to open them in my weak Portuguese. After that, I was pretty hesitant/reluctant to keep trying, even though I should have. I think you kind of need to play the number game and push through till you find a honey that speaks decent English or is really into your look/vibe. I like Roosh am also of Middle Eastern heritage and pretty much look like a native Brazilian, so I didn't have the exotic factor of looking like a gringo, which can generate more interest, than having women just assume you are another Brazilian when they see you on the street.
I never really felt unsafe in Rio, except on the ride from the airport, I will agree you pass a lot of super sketchy looking favelas and you wonder if you can trust the taxi driver, hoping he won't drive you into the favela and steal all your $$. Other than that, I did feel a little paranoid/sketched out when I went to Lapa to see the Seleron steps by myself during the middle of the day, I had my digi camera out and there were lot's of thugged out looking fools mean mugging me. However once I got into the groove and the vibe of the city, I felt completely safe, even walking around Copa at night time. That said I also look Brazilian, never flossed any jewlry, dressed down, and walked around without fear, like I had been through those streets before. Also, I have grown up in the Washington D.C. area, gone to a school that was only 10% white, with it's fair share of gang-bangers/thugs, so the street thug culture isn't new to me.
I think I liked Lapa for nightlife the best, although it did have far less attractive women than any where else I went to, except for some wack club in Botafago that had an "indie rock" night that some people at my hostel wanted to mob to. I regret not going into Rio Scenarium, because I hear that is the best spot to hook up, I just was being a cheapskate because they were charging 50 Reals to get in and every where else was like 10 at most. I will agree that you should dress down at the Lapa street party, shorts, tank top, and skate shoes is what I rocked. On another note, you might think this is funny, I tried to get into Baronneti and Zero Zero with the same look, with obviously no success. I don't know if I ever saw so many 10's lined up to get into Baronetti, but they were charging 100 Reals to get in and everyone was dressed up real fancy, and seemed like the douchy rich Brazilians that have been discussed here. Also Emporio is a pretty chill spot for sure, there seemed to be a high percentage of B girls who speak good English there, but the competition from other gringos is high, it's like a shark tank with 4 gringos all competing for the same English speaking B girl.
If you are going to be in Rio for more than a week I suggest going to check out some other spots like Ilha Grande and Paraty. I thought Rio was a beautiful city (geographically speaking) that is the mountains, beaches, bays, etc. As far as architecture and the city itself don't expect it to compare to Rome, Istanbul, Lucerne, London, etc. While there are less hot women in the surrounding areas outside Rio, you get more down to earth people, and greater exotic factor which can help you get laid.

This should be the topic of a separate thread.
In a nutshell, from what brasilian and gringo friends have been telling me:
1) Goiania is simply sick when it comes to the quality of babes there. Clean, modern, medium sized city in the Centre West of the country, a bit hot, but very safe and packed like crazy with hot babes. Everywhere.
2) Belo Horizonte. Another gem. Modern, clean, safe, pleasant city, people are educated and nice. Babe galore.
3) Manaus from what I have heard from Brasilian friends and gringo friends who have gone there is simply out of the scale. Girls are crazy aggressive there. Anywhere/everywhere girls are very easily approachable...that is if they haven't approached you in the first place. Climate is hot, very humid, in the middle of the jungle but with a nice, refreshing river beach. Very lively nightlife. Specially the forro clubs are out of this world. I'd add Belem as well to this list as its profile is very similar to Manaus's.
4) Brasilia. I have been there a few times and each time, had a great time there. Very rich city with lots of rich people. A car is a must there as the city is very spread. Can get very hot during the day but the malls are a refreshing oasis filled with top shelf girl quality. Very happening and lively nightlife. Lots of very educated people who speak English there. I personally tend to stay away and avoid girls who speak English and stick more to the ones who do not speak English as I find these sweeter and less cynical. But that's just me. Major downside for Brasilia is that it's also the most expensive city in Brasil. But if you can afford to rent a car or even better, be lucky enough to find a nice girl who has her own car in BSB, you'll have the time of your life. Oh and safety there is almost a no concern.

Of course, in all these smaller sized cities, Portuguese is required.
And as I mentioned in the start of this post, we should have a separate thread focusing on that topic.

You're one of the very few guys I have heard of who have not enjoyed Rio. All I can say is learn Portuguese and stay away from Copacabana next time. Venture to Centro during the day and diversify your approach to include a lot of day game on the streets, in the bookstores etc and not only the obvious places like the beach and or the clubs.

Yeah OGNorCal707 I also saw alot of lovely asses in Ipanema streets and Vacancier Permanent I did enjoy it otherwise the three weeks would have been hell, but after being in Manaus it did seem disappointing. I just wanted to post my honest impressions, so I might help other avoid making the same mistake as me :-)
Btw did some daygame on the streets of Ipanema and in the mal of Leblon.

You do that beebopaloo, that place will make its own notorious reputation fast enough, around these places. On speaking to people in the beach area I didnt meet any that was overly impressed with the city and people. I think the citys status is more hype from when it might have been great and people are afraid to critizice and seem whiny.

2016 OL is gonna be messy and Rio doesnt have any infrastructure to support that kinda pressure, nor does the people speak any english, so its internationality rating is virtually none existing(besides all the gringos that do speak several languages), the traffic is messy allready. I spoke to this german guy working for Michelin arranging hybridcar races all over the world and he said that Rio had been awfull.

I like the idea about a second topic of the best second tier citys! makes me wanna study portuguese again

I don´t know why they like so much latin guys. I think they associate us with beach and sun. We are also their oposite in terms of appearance.

Czech Republic was the only country till now where I got a flag the same night I arrived. This girl I banged at one point in the club said something like: "please don´t kiss my friends too".

I vouch what Pepini says that speaking Portuguese will not help you pull top shelf girls in Rio, since the top girls already speak english. It will help with the lapa girls definitely and also middle class girls.

I still advise learning portuguese, but its usefulness in rio is less than other brazilian cities. I stopped studying a month ago because I already knew enough for what i used it for (dining, transport, shopping, etc). 70% of girls i met in the club spoke english.

I thought it was hard to meet English speakers ANYWHERE in Brazil. I was surprised at how little English was understood. I had thought that at the least, Spanish would be widely spoken given that they are surrounded by Spanish speaking countries, but even then, few of them understood Spanish beyond the common cognates. The rich Brazilians definitely spoke it, but these are same people wearing Levi's and Abercrombie so it's a given. Btw, why the hell are Levi's so damn expensive in S. America?? I saw Levi's I wouldn't pay more than $50 for selling for over 300 Reais.
