Miracle Drug?

A possible side effect of taking an airline flight is crashing and burning to death. But what are the odds?

When I read about a side effect for a medication, I want to know what the chances are.

I haven't been able to find any good data for the risk profile of Provigil. It's too new a drug to have a decent history of data behind it, I think.

It also doesn't help that no one can agree as to how the drug works. No one knows what is happening to your brain when you pop a provigil. Maybe there is brain damage which causes some stimulant hormones to be released (that's how some people believe electroshock therapy works in the treatment of depression)? It's risky to trust something that is mysterious in its method of action.

I don't trust the drug companies far enough to trust this newish drug. Harmful effects are routinely buried by drug makers and often the truth will only come out decades later, like with Vioxx. I would wait a decade or two more before deciding whether provigil is safe and what the real odds are on side effects.

I've come across a handful of patients on Provigil. None of them looked good - pasty complexion, lethargic, big bags under the eyes. Like those sleephacking guys on youtube. Not sleeping is not healthy. If you're not sleeping excessively, then I wouldn't recommend taking it.

Drugs have side-effects. There is no nothing for something... Even something as routine as antibiotics have side-effects (serious side-effects if you take it longer than a week)

WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude

Miracle Drug?

I've been on 200mg modafinil(Provigil) for a couple of weeks now. I tried some that a friend gave me a while back, and I can definitely say his off brand was shit compared to this one.

I take one in the morning after I have a protein shake, and it takes about 30 minutes or so to start kicking in. Modafinil is definitely not like any other upper(adderall/ritalin) where you get a little jittery. It's a clean wakeful feeling where everything just seems a lot more clear. As for focus, I have noticed that I do get more accomplished. Because I use associative memorization, I haven't really seen an improvement in committing information to memory, but I seem to be able to recall "superficial" data a little faster.

Workouts have become really fucking intense. I have to force myself to stop lifting so I don't fatigue my muscles to the point where they start breaking down. I don't know if it helps your synapses fire better or what, but you feel stronger and faster when you take it.

I haven't really noticed any side effects as of yet, other than only sleeping 6-7 hours where I usually sleep 8-10+.

I'd be happy to answer any questions.

I tried Provigil a couple of years ago when I was sleepy all the time. Like Katatonic already said, it's not much of an "upper," which means it doesn't have the potential for abuse like adderall, and it works fairly well for what it's intended to do, but it's definitely no miracle drug.

I achieved much the same, if not better, effect by changing my diet and adding more exercise to my life. The best focus aid for me was going on the ketogenic diet surprisingly. I was losing fat, skin was looking great, and my brain was very clear and sharp-- all because i cut out most carbs.

Okay. I just stacked 200 mg provigil with 20 mg ritalin this morning. It's an insane combination. I spent half the day doing number sequence puzzles, knocking them off faster than I ever have before. Then I spent another six hours figuring projections for my business. I'm probably going to need to sleep 12+ hours just to make up for the mental energy I expended today.
