Ream Men of Genius - Henry Hill in Goodfellas

"8. Is getting married worth it? Henry and Karen are left penniless when Karen panics and flushes tens of thousands of dollars down the toilet. Henry and Karen separate and she gets custody of the children. I can't say I would blame Karen, though, as Henry took the ultimate gamble by selling drugs and was left penniless, a federal informant, and some "schnook" living in suburbia in the witness protection program."

You missed the part when the DA is offering them immunity, but they would have to leave everything behind. She's like "You mean I'll never be able to see my mother again? You need him, not me and the kids". He's like "Karen, I couldn't do this without you".

When push comes to shove boys, just like what he said about Paulie and the crew. "Just when you are at your most vunerable and at the time when you need their help and support the most, they turn their backs on you"................the same applies to wives....................

Great flick. But Hill was, by most standards, a loser and a rat. Is he still hiding out in Seattle? He used to occasionally show up on The Howard Stern Show some years back. I think I still like "Casino" a bit more.

He died sometime this summer.

He was still getting in trouble with the law, even when in witness protection. I believe he got busted for selling drugs or something. If you remember, he never held a legit job until very late in his life. All he knew how to do was hustle. He didn't exactly lay low. I guess he felt that anyone that would likely want payback was either dead or locked up, so the didn't really worry after a while.

To the OP- some of the stuff that you pointed out Henry Hill would never have done if he didnt have mafia connections. Im not saying he wouldnt be an alpha male. Im just saying he would be a lower class alpha.

I actually think guys in the life thought being married made them more respectable and stable, while all of them had a "Goomah," a regular side girlfriend. I believe in the narration of the film by Henry, he said that Friday was for the wives, but Saturday night was for the girlfriends. Tommy was definitely the exception in that he wasn't married, and that may have also been part of the problem. He was too wild. Married guys had families to take care of, so they were a lot more careful and tried to stay under the radar.

Tommy was nuts. Poor Billy Bats.

Remember, Paulie warned Henry about him when he first got out of jail. Tommy was a cowboy, always with something to prove. Bats was disrespectful to him, but the code is the code. You can't fuck with made guys. His temper always dictated his actions, and you simply can't handle business like that, especially in a situation where you can get whacked for any little thing.

Bats was a made guy, right? I gotta admit the first time I watched "Goodfellas" I thought maybe it would be forgotten over time and Tommy would get made and move on. Nope. Killing Morrie was what bothered me. That dude was hilarious. When he was at Henry's house and he started talking about what would eventually become the Lufthansa Heist and how he had been planning it for two years? Epic. I thought Morrie was gonna pull his dick out right then and there and beat off.

Yeah. Bats was made. It was kind of grimy the way Jimmy did Morrie. Yes, Morrie was a loudmouthed pest, but he may have shut up if he had gotten paid. There was no reason not to give him his money, but Jimmy simply didn't want to pay most of the guys that put in work on the job. He looked for an excuse to whack them all. Of course, the guys that went out and bought cars and furs after they were told to lay low and not make large purchases had it coming. Stacks also fucked up, so they REALLY had to do him..HA HA!

Yeah, Jimmy was fucked up. I think when it came to Morrie not getting paid it was a combination of two things. One, simply because if Jimmy didn't wanna pay up, what could Morrie do? And two, remember early on in the film when Morrie was argueing with Henry in his wig shop and he told him he wasn't going to pay Jimmy and Jimmy strangled him with the telephone cord? Yeah, I'm sure that played a role, too.

That's true, but Jimmy knew from that earlier incident that Morrie was running a broke-ass hairpiece business, so he knew Morrie REALLY needed that money. Just take what he owed you (plus the interest of course...HA HA!) and give him his loot. Just like when they scored some loot, Paulie got his tribute, you just follow certain codes. I think the bottom line was Jimmy was simply uncomfortable with Morrie running his mouth all the time.
