Getaround.com - AirBnB for Cars

Has anyone here used or heard anything about:

http://www.getaround.com/

It's basically AirBnB for cars and they guarantee you make $1000 in the first three months (your car has to be available for a minimum of 6 months).

I am seriously considering this as I have two cars and was just about to sell the one I never drive, a 2002 Honda Accord that runs perfectly well and is in a "public transit" city where demand for a short-term car rental might be quite high.

Thoughts? Experiences? It seems very legit, especially with insurance provided by Berkshire Hathaway.

Thanks for sharing the site, thats an interesting concept.

However the site is not well designed plus i need a facebook account to sign up (i dont have a facebook account).

The idea is great but the site looks like it was designed by some 15 year old. Shit needs to improve.

Agreed on that. I had trouble seeing what cities they were even running the beta test in.

I've rented out my manual car once on a site like that.

Lessons learned:
Don't rent a manual, only automatic.
A toyota corolla will probably make more money on that website than a benz. Or a truck/van for speciality times. Something that doesn't need finess when you drive it and is cheap to repair.

It'll still be interesting to watch if this site develops but I went ahead and sold the 2002 Honda Accord. $4000 in the pocket [Image: smile.gif] Has nearly 115k miles on it so I consider that price a win.

My car was nice, now some locking mechanism pin on it is misaligned and it makes a loud sound. Wont be surprised with it breaking in a couple of years. You have to report damage within 24 hours of the rental otherwise the renter has to admit guilt in an email or something similar with getaround.
