Real quick . I was at a party on friday night, hooked up with this girl, she asked me for my number, I told her to put her's in my phone . Got her number .
I'm over thinking this a lot . But when should I text her back? I figured I'd wait until today to do it so I didn't come off needy or whatever . Looks like I've already got my foot in the door with her since she likes me, so should I pull back on gaming her and just be direct ? What should I say to her . I was thinking "hey" would be fine and eventually she'd ask who it was but I'm not trying to go overboard . thanks.

Just text her 'what you up to?' banter back and forth with some light hearted messages for a couple of texts and then tell her you're going shopping/to a cool bar/to a party etc. on whatever day and ask her if she wants to come. Just play it cool,if she says she's busy or can't make it be cool about it and text her next week using tbe same formula again. This is why when you go for the number it's best to always invite her out at the same time so you know it's on: 'what's your number,I'm going out on Friday to a new club so i'll let you tag along if you promise to not be all grabby with me'.

she doesn't have my number since I never sent her anything after I got hers . You're saying, text her when I want to meet up with her and nothing before that ?

I would start with light, fun topics. Ask non yes-or-no questions.
I gauge interest by how forthcoming she is, how quickly she replies, whether or not she asks questions. After 5-10 texts, I propose plans. If she declines without suggesting an alternate time, my policy is to cut communication. I've occasionally broken this rule in special cases with some success. Ex:
Me: If you're free Weds I've been meaning to check out that new bar/club/whatever
Her: That sounds nice but I work weds night
Me: (This is the part where you suggest another time)
Her: Lol! Um... how about friday?
