I just recently moved into a home and sleeping on this temporary air mattress is getting old. I'm looking for a bed right now but being a College kid funds are obviously tight. Sleep is probably next on this list of needed comforts after food.

Anybody have any experiences with IKEA Beds?

They are all over Craigslist and dirt cheap, I am hesitant of the quality of course as IKEA is mad suspect at times. My biggest fear is copping a IKEA frame+ Mattress and it imploding on me when I am going at it with a Lizard.

Another option I was thinking is to buy a cheap Mattress and Frame used and slap on Plastic/Poly Hospital covers. Hotels barley even go this far to protect their mattresses so I am not too worried of the taboo nature of using something like this used.

Anybody have any experiences with either or just general advice on searching out cheap bedding and Bedroom options?

The material is reasonably solid, but the finish is total shit. Getting used IKEA stuff is like bying a used piece of paper.

That said, go ahead and get a frame that looks like it has the minimum amount of dings. it will be far cheaper and serve its purpose for the time being. Save your cash for something nicer down the road.

I bought a wood frame IKEA bed when I lived in the Netherlands because it can take a month there to get a new bed and it is much more expensive. The bed was alright but it took me several hours to get the damn thing together. They are good if you don’t mind assembling the thing.

I have one of those ikea beds that you can turn it into a sofa. I've had it for two years and don't really have any complaints about it. It does squeek when lizard slaying is going on but it's not imploding so I don't care..

Stay away from the particle board construction ones. I had one and it developed a fracture down one of the sides from me smashing. I have an IKEA frame now but it's one of those solid wood construction ones....haven't had any problems with it.

Build your own hillbilly bedframe.

Take five cinder blocks, and place four at each corner of the bed. Place another in the center.

Cut a piece of plywood to size. Spraypaint it if you wish.

Set your mattress down. Done!

Just throw your boxspring on your floor. Won't get the annoying squeaking and its different from most people.

My boxsprings are what squeaks. It's so annoying. I've been trying to find alternatives to having boxsprings altogether. I have a tempurpedic though so I need something completely flat.

I'm going to go with "great minds think alike" coupled with the fact that I don't have shit to do today but be lazy around the house. It's raining outside, I slept in 'til 1 p.m., and the only reason I've gotten up from the computer desk these last few hours has either been to piss or smoke a cigarette.

Funny thing about the rain today - I sleep at night listening to one of those nature recording tracks, usually ocean waves, a thunderstorm, shit like that.

Last night I turned on the thunderstorm track and went to bed. It hadn't rained in days. I wake up this afternoon, the thunderstorm track is still going - I step outside for a cigarette, and it's actually raining.

It's an image I pulled offline. I'll buy one when it is time. Platform beds rock (no pun intended) and I like sleeping lower to the ground. Plus that lip around it is pimp. I could get some serious leverage with it.

My biggest thing is a squeaky bed. Once it starts I can't concentrate. It sucks. I want something solid and take take the abuse I give to pussy. Those Ikea beds look flimsy, and I would advise going to a showroom and getting a better look.

I've decked out two different apartments in almost 100% IKEA shit. I would not recommend sleeping on something from there, assuming it's constructed like the rest of their stuff. Don't get me wrong, my bookshelves are full and haven't collapsed, and I don't have a problem assembling it, but for a bed I think I'd look elsewhere.

I'd stay vigilant with Craigslist, yard sales, auctions, and thrift stores. I used to move around a lot, and would by used furniture and sale when I moved. A lot of people have had to become nomadic right now, and are dumping the heavier stuff. And their broke too.

The markup on new furniture is like 300%.

Yep. I had to give away over $1000 retail worth of furniture last time I moved. Didn't sell on CL fast enough and had to go. Find people with tight move out window and offer bottom dollar.
