For those on here who like to read... What are you guys reading, that you recommend?

Also, has anyone read books on evolutionary psychology, like The Red Queen?

I am probably in the middle of 12 different books right now.

I recently propped out Never Die Alone by Donald Goines on The G Manifesto.

Check out Survival of the Sickest.

Makes you 2x more interesting and smart-sounding. Fascinating insights on how the body adapts to diseases.

Books

I'm sorry, I'm going to try to broaden this thread. Books are definitely a good resource but with the internet information is published much more rapidly and to the point. I'm much more inclined to sift through periodicals as the information I want is condensed and up-to-date.

There's the staple: NYT, WSJ, Atlantic, Economist, Newsweek, New Yorker. Usually they'll have a most popular link which saves time sifting. Usually I'm on the lookout for the indepth magazine pieces. Those are money and I usually stash them somewhere in case I want to come back to them. Gladwell has a site with a lot of his pieces. Well-written of course with interesting ideas but you have to use a critical eye. He's been caught occassionally doing less than diligent research (see igonvalues instead of eigenvalues).

Radio: The NPR site has This American Life which is pretty much hit or miss but chronicle some very interesting stories. Good to listen to if you're doing work not involving thinking. The moth has a very interesting but limited selection as well.

Books: I went through a biography phase not sure if you're into that. Snowball - Warren Buffett that was good. Most of Richard Feynman's. I'd avoid reading autobios though... there's a pretty heavy bias in those.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Best book ever: Adventure, Travel, Women, Love, Crime, Mafia, Heroin, Prison, Brotherhood, War, Life ...... "Shantaram" By Gregory David Roberts... read it quick before Johnny Depp makes the movie and ruins it for you. (he bought the rights and Roberts is writing the screenplay)

i just started "Memoria de mis putas tristes" de Garcia Marquez.. It means "Memoir of my sad/melancholy whores"... im 10 pages in.. hes in his 90s, about to die and needs to deflower one last girl to cap it all off.. not to mention the history of all the whores he's banged in the years

I recently read and liked both

Talent Is Overrated by Geoff Colvin
and
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

I want to read more of Gladwell's books, I like the way he approaches research and the way he writes his books. I think he has like 4 books, I might read them all.

This book is incredible, it is the complete guide to early 20th century womanizing, from the p.o.v. of a poor illegitimate son, to the top percentile men of money and fine suits.

A good list, I have added a few books to my list now, but heavily modern, and regrettably, but understandably, mostly American writers.

The Exile: Sex, Drugs, and Libel in the New Russia by Mark Ames and Matt Taibbi (the same Rolling Stone Taibbi who recently caused controversy on Wall St with his articles on Goldman Sachs and other IBs).

Amazingly entertaining and educational read, especially for guys with international living interests. An account of the wild west atmosphere of late 1990s Moscow, from a couple of Americans who started the gonzo expat newspaper, The Exile. Politics, partying, sex, drugs, business, journalism and the russian mafia.

Still active online, after being literally run out of Russia by Putins government, their current website is still good for political, socioeconomic, and plain entertaining articles.

Dude, great fucking recommendation!

I caught this flick on netflix streaming last night and whoa... it was eerie how accurate it was in describing the average night out chasing chicks in America (LA specifically). I like how it showed things through the eyes of average people and not some made up characters that always get what they want.

Some of the takeaways and shit I could relate to:

- The afterparty is DEFINITELY overrated, unless you're a druggie cokehead. If you haven't swooped by 2am (assuming thats last call in your city) then your best bet is to go home and live to see another day.

- EVERYONE is out at night looking for the same things. Bouncers, Promoters, Bartenders and everyone who showed up to the club either wants to hook up, they want drugs or money. Getting any one or a combo of those things is what ends up creating a "Bad ass time!". Some people are just better at pretending than others.

- Meeting a girl at night and in the daytime are two COMPLETELY different things. The same prissy priss that you may meet in her biz attire acting all professional in the day will be the same chick dancing on tables and slurring words in your ear later that night. To truly know a chick in this country you need to get her drunk or at least put her in a situation where drinking is inevitable, because if you don't, some other guy will.

Thats all I can think of for now, nice one Brandon E!

Just finished "The Big Girls" by Susanna Moore. She also wrote "In the Cut" which was made into a movie, and is a much better read. "In the Cut" is a slim volume. I bought it in NY and read it on a flight to LA. Thriller. Serial Killer. Lot's of sex. "The Big Girls" is about women, mostly in a women's prison. I liked it, but I don't think most people will.

Two thrillers by Swedish writer Steig Larsson. Here are my reviews:
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire.

I titled my review: Punk meets Pedophile
