hahahah I find this thread so funny. Where I come from the stereotypes for indian guys are: gangsters that are really protective over their women and will gang beat or stab you if you start shit with them. They drop hundreds at bars and clubs, are jacked wear ed hardy, don't get laid because of it etc. You guys just have the nerdy guy stereotype.

us Sikhs are a different animal than what the average person thinks of when they think Indian person. We're as different to mainsteam hindus and muslims as we are to the chinese...we just share a closer shade in color.

Actually Sikhs are pretty close to fundamentalist Muslims. They are fanatical about their religion, have no problem with resorting to violence when they feel that their honour and/or religious sensibilities have been offended, and they complain endlessly about being persecuted. If you hear about an honour killing of a young girl, 9 times out of 10, it is carried out either by Muslims or Sikhs.

Absolute bullshit...Don't mistake willing to stand up for your beliefs as fighting anybody who doesn't think as you do. Sikhs will not walk away from a fight it's not in the genetic make up but are we starting them? Do Sikhs want the end of any and all other religions? That is the fundamental difference. Sikhism allows for all other religions and beliefs. If you're looking for cases where Sikhs have acted badly you'll find them but by and large we're not a extremist religion, look at the actions following the Wisonsin murders, were Sikhs crying for revenge? were Sikhs in India condemning the US, no, they raised questions about the gun laws, they thought the act was shameful, but was it death to America???? our highest priest said it was a security lapse and that proper precautions needed to be taken with all the gurdwaras...not a word of retaliation or anger or hatred.... there will be factions in any religion where some act on what they believe is right and what they percieve is right and against the tenets of what we're based upon but that doesn't make them the voice for all Sikhs any more than a priest touching kids makes him the posterchild for Catholicism for example. By and large we are a peaceful inclusive religion that isn't afraid of a fight if a time calls for it.

Honor killings are as shunned by Sikhs as they are by anybody, saying it's common practice and accepted practice is absolute garbage. A Sikh cannot take life unless it is in defense of the weak and innocent and even then as a last resort...any Sikh that takes part in honor killings isn't a true Sikh, he may have been born into Sikhism but he's not Sikh. Honor killings have no place in our religion and any attempt to say otherwise is a bold faced lie, thats not saying it hasn't happened, there are incidents, I know of a case involving people who lived 20 minutes from me, had their daughter killed in India for marrying the wrong guy...people involved are rotting in jail and the community was sickened by it. I'm sure there are cases of Christians doing it, and other religions doing it as well so im not going to say it couldn't happen it can happen in any religion but is it accepted practice hell no. If you check the actual statistics 91% of honor killings were done by muslims...so yeah you're right 9 out of 10 honor killings were done by sikhs or muslims, but you could take out sikhs and put christians, catholics, buddhists or whatever with Muslims and that stats still true.

Re: Persecution... I'm not getting into it with you but if you knew jack shit about the history of Sikhism you'd know there is a history of persecution, probably sounds like another group whining about the past to you but it doesn't make their struggles any less legit. I don't need you to google the struggles and try to downplay them now, its obvious you know nothing of them otherwise you wouldn't have made the stupid comment to begin with.

Sikh's "complain" about some of the really violent shit they've experienced in recent times, hence why way more of them as a percentage leave India (also because more of them can afford to).

Just noticed this statement. Are you actually serious with this comment? I had to burst out laughing when I read it. They leave India because of a lot of the really violent shit? A lot of which was caused by them? Hilarious? And they go abroad and continue to funnel millions of dollars to India so that the violent shit that they complain about can continue, and complain about it? Wow, talk about ironic. You really have no clue.

I'm a sikh and feel the need to chime in here. I agree with some of what you are saying but overall you are making some pretty brash statements about sikhs, are you even Indian? If you are what part of India are you from? Sikhs are definitely more aggressive then the pussies you see running around everywhere else in India, so yeah, you're dead on about that. Have you been to Punjab...ever? You think sikhs run around with guns and beat the shit out of innocent people for no reason? The punjab I visited last summer wasn't like that, but maybe you experienced something I didn't? You really think they condone senseless violence and ram planes into buildings? It just irks me that you compared them to fundamentalist muslims...that's not true at all. You meet a sikh man in punjab 9 times outta 10 he'll offer your some whiskey, lamb, chicken, and you'll have a good ass time. Sure they can be more conservative than others and yes, they are extremely proud of their religion but how can you even begin to compare them to fundamentalist muslims...especially with all the fuckery they pull across the middle east on a daily basis.

And please don't even use the Indira Ghandi shit as example whoever did that..are you actually serious? Pardon me I had to laugh at that...I won't even begin to get into that bullshit.

And you want to win wars against Pakistan, or anyone else for that matter? C'mon son..sikhs are 1.8% of the Indian population but 25% of air force pilots and 20% of the overall military is Sikhs...and in the Indo Pakistan war of 65...45% of Generals were sikhs. Oh and what's the middle name of the biggest cricket player in India? What religion is the prime minister of India.....? And isn't he the first PM to hold 2 consecutive 5 year terms since Nehru?

Compare that shit with fundamentalist Muslims and acting like we're some kind of fucking barbarians, get out of here with that shit son.

But hey man then again what the fuck do I know I'm only 20.

Just my .02

By violent shit, I meant the series of massacres and riots from the end of the Raj to Indira Gandhi's assassination, after which Sikh's started leaving India. Basically the South Asian version of Jew's leaving Russia's pogroms. Living on the border with Pakistan is why there's heightened security there too.

If I'm alone on the streets at night and there was a Hindu, a Sikh and a Muslim the later is the one whose most likely to attack me because Muslim immigrants are relatively poor. Indian ones, not so much. Sikh's here make make six figures and drive fancy cars. They're the ones who the media was saying was getting stabbed on our streets in robberies, not the other way around.

No arranged marriages in Sri Lanka - are you kidding me?

There's not much / any honour killings in India, these predominately happen in the muslim countries. Having said that, you could argue that females repressed in Sri Lanka - how many of them go out at night and how many of them drink? (see the threads on this site of Sri Lanka) Meanwhile, alcoholism is a big issue amongst a significant proportion of men in Sri Lanka.

Let's look at probably the most famous people to come out of Sri Lanka - the cricketers - aside from Sangakkara and maybe Malinga and at a stretch Dilshan - how many of them would be alphas? None. And even those three guys would struggle to be AMOGs.

Nope, dead serious. Maybe a very long time ago but even in my parents generation it was not the norm. That and cousin marriage is more of a Hindu thing, and they're like 15% of the population. The females are repressed meme doesn't get much sympathy on this board, but if you want girls who act more like Western girls you'll only find it with Lankan girls who live overseas or ones who live in Colombo and are rich but good luck trying to crack into that circle as a non-Lankan. It's definitely not a country you'd go to pickup women. As for Lankan celebrities and cricketers, I don't know anything about either and I don't really care.

I'd say arranged marriages are still fairly common. Off hand, I know of two Sri Lankans in their mid 20's who had arranged marriages - and they both grew up and live in Australia. Not to mention, back in the day, there would have been a bit of cousin marrying going on because Sri Lankans weren't renowned for any world exploration and Sri Lanka was a relatively isolated island.

Not looking for sympathy. But can you provide any evidence of ANY Sri Lankan who is alpha? Around the world, famous people are considered relatively alpha - take sports stars, movie actors in western countries. Also, Indian cricketers for example have some Alphas among them - you hear of Yuvraj Singh banging chicks left, right and centre on a tour to Australia. Also, Dhoni, Pathan and Virat Kohli are alphas. Not to mention some of their movie stars.

Can you name any Sri Lankan alphas?

If that's true that's great man, but not a single one I know had an arranged marriage. The closest thing is a matchmaking service (pretty common in Sri Lanka) or their parents making suggestions. I've never heard of a Lankan getting married to someone they've never met before that was arranged when they were little and especially not someone they had no choice to marry. I know an Indian (Sikh actually) whose parents were cousins and another whose parents had an arranged marriage, that's about it.

EDIT: The difference is probably because of religion. Arranged marriage isn't part of Buddhist societies like it is for Hindu's and Sikhs. You live in Thailand so see for yourself, how many arranged marriages do you get there?

I don't know any of these people you're talking about. I said it before, I don't know any Lankan cricketers or celebrities. I don't follow cricket or watch Lankan movies or anything like that because I'm basically white besides my skin colour and afro, they call me a "coconut" brown outside white inside. The only Lankan alphas I know are the ones I know personally.

Alright, I need to bring some better desi beats to this convo. I think the guy above was in some way trying to imitate this video. Also, this one has the bonus of featuring a gorgeous Indian girl (she's an 8.5/9 for me, love that look). On the other hand, the girl in the video above is the average level of attractiveness (at best) that you will see in cities on the street.
