I don't dislike British girls in general but am I the only guy that does not like a British accent on girl's?

Depends on which British accent you mean dude.

For an outsider all we hear is British, the subtleties is probably clear to you but most non-brits could probably not tell cockney and Oxford apart.

True, but you would definitely tell a 'Geordie', 'Scouser' and 'Cockney' apart. Plus, Britain isn't just England, for example Scotland has some accents so strong I can't understand them! Seriously.

You got some youtubes?

All them across the pond chicks sound the same to me. As I'm sure most people couldn't tell a Texas accent from a Georgia accent)

I saw the movie NEDS which is about the Scottish equivalent of chavs, and I had to turn on the subtitles!

Here you go:

Geordie:

Scouser:

Cockney, no need in posting a vid, you know that accent.

Fairly strong Scottish:

Mancunian:

My accent is Mancunian, but MUCH less strong as I'm middle class, not trying to be snobby or anything, just the way it is with accents!

I seem to be getting a lot of hits from this thread. I'm 99% sure "3agle 3yes" is "Alex Mann," the original shitbag that inspired my post. I see he's been banned from RVF as well.

I pulled my "Are British Girls Actually Ugly?" post because it attracted more obnoxious comments than the entire rest of my site combined. Redirecting the trolls to various disgusting goatse pictures became too much of a pain in the ass. If you guys are interested, I'll repost it here.

If you can't detect an accent then the speaker is likely from the upper middle classes or above. Or is putting in significant effort to get there. That accent is called "Received Pronounciation" (RP) and is adopted by almost everyone who has been to a good University in the UK. Also, of course, used by people whose parents and social circle speak that way.

It's a bit controversial saying that, because most people are naturally proud of the region they come from, but even today many Brits trying to get ahead head to London and the South East and subtly change their accent over time. Commentators say it is less likely to happen these days, but based on my observation I question that. I mean, listen to a supposedly "multi-cultural" channel like BBC News and, really, 99% of it's news readers and presenters use RP. And this is an organisation which no doubt does genuinely appreciate diversity. The people they choose to present their face to the global public do come from many regions, ethnic groups etc. But they all speak pretty much the same way.

I have an interest in, and fascination with, accents and believe the general rule holds true throughout the world, and in all languages. If you can't detect an accent in a native speaker of a language then that speaker is, very broadly speaking, in the ruling class of that country/region/ethnic group.

PS:
Oh, I'm pretty sure you'd be able to tell a Cockney apart from other Brits. Not just from accent, but from attitude and many other things. When next in London take a black cab or go to big market in central London like Berwick Street Market in Soho. If the cab driver, or market stall holder is White he or she is almost certainly Cockney. Not creating a race thread, just saying that it would be more difficult to say if the person was Black or Asian since they could be more recent immigrants. Anyway, as they say, Cockneys are the only true Londoners.

I think also a lot of UK accents seem similar because if they're an actor or something, they have to be legible in the first place.

As an Englishman, I thought "Sean Bean - Yorkshire accent, I understand that, no problem." It's a whole different situation when you go into a cornershop in the middle of Yorkshire and speak to an 'average Yorkshire accent.'

I remember going to Liverpool and being sat on the train next to a Scouse family, and in all honesty I spent the first 20 minutes of the train journey trying to figure out what country where they were from. Thick scouse accents are completely illegible unless you're prepared.

I can only imagine what an American or Australian (etc.) would make of it.

That's probably because they're Pakistani! [Image: tongue.gif]

I liked this page on Facebook back in August when they were the first to do this. They used to scour through nightclub websites looking for embarrassing photos of people on nights out then got bigger as people started contributing sending their own photos in that they'd snapped. Other people started copying the idea and to keep up these guys have had to resort to stealing photos from other places and countries and the like. Bit sad really but it shows a lot of what's wrong with England in it.

Just a sample, there's loads on there. The best ones are from a few months ago. It's full of girls pissing in the streets, lying down on the streets drunk, puking up, flashing themselves, all that stuff. It has a lot of guys on there too who are equally as bad. The country is a mess.

I don't know...they seem like a lot of fun to me. My entertainment when out is making these moments happen which looks easy in the UK. I'm giving a thumbs up.
