I'll be deciding on the Galaxy3 and iphobe 5 in the next two weeks. I have a carrier unlocked iPhone 3GS and carrier unlocked iPhone 4. Would it make sense to sell the 4 and keep the 3GS as a backup/travel phone since it's easier to get regular sims while traveling abroad compared to micro-sims?

I had the Galaxy S3 for a bit. Be warned, it's a HUGE phone. Also, the thing heats up to the point where my hand would literally start sweating if I was, say, using the device while the phone was charging. And that was while having a dual-layered case on it. Great display though. As for the design of the device itself, not bad but not great, either. Call quality was okay. I don't think it will continue to keep up with the iPhone 5 though once it's released later this month. It's not a gamechanger. But neither is the iPhone 5 really. At least not when compared to the 4S version.

Mechanico, what's the app that let's you send fries and hamburgers and all that bullshit?

I've got a unlocked, jailbroken, 4s that I bout in chinatown for 400 bucks. The carrier is called H20 wireless and it's 60 bucks per month. Also, I can travel overseas and put in another sim card to get on the local networks. I really like this phone. Only had it a couple months though so I don't really know all the sweet apps.

You don't need any special app to enable those picture icons.

Launch the Settings app
Then go to General -> Keyboard -> International Keyboards
Tap on Add New Keyboard
And then tap on Emoji from the list of International Keyboards

Just went through the steps, but I don't see any new icons and I don't know which keys to press to bring these up. Like when you do the winking smiley face [Image: wink.gif]

After getting a chance today to look over some of the specs for the iPhone 5, I'm a bit underwhelmed to be honest. Okay, so it's slightly thinner, the same width as the 4S, and has a bigger display. No NFC communications and no 12MP camera that had been rumored for so long. So basically you're buying it based on the fact it will have iOS 6. Not sure that's enough of a reason for me to blow my upgrade on. I know the OP said this was an iPhone only thread, but I now have my sights set on the little baby pictured below. Thoughts?

" I know the OP said this was an iPhone only thread"

That was me and yes I did. Also ALI-B trolled me. That's the phone he's waiting for to get fixed for two months now. " So hot in the DR they blow up" " You stuck the wrong charger in the port" He's heard it all.

Sorry, dude. I just figured that since the Razr Maxx HD is going to basically be the direct competitor to the iPhone 5 this Fall (at least on Verizon), I thought it was worth mentioning.

Yo, no one's answered me: what's better to keep around for travel in terms of inserting a foreign sim card: the 3GS or the 4?

Eldon, I have the 4s and it's a simple affair to pop in a sim card from the country you are visiting. It takes 3 seconds to change.

I had no idea ATT would unlock my iphone, so I just did it. Now I don't have to buy an extra phone for my trip next week to Europe. Awesome, and I get to show off the Iphone when out which some foreign girls love.

Fisto, when you switch your SIM do you still get to retain your iMessage from your regular phone or is that tied to your SIM?

Switching SIMs has no effect on your iMessages; they remain.

I recommend an app called LiveExpenses. It can help you keep track of expenses while abroad. Great when you are travelling on budget or want to know how much you spent after the trip has finished.

Cricket wireless will be offering an iphone 5 no contract on September 28th. They don't know the price yet but they're guessing 500 dollars.

Thanks Fisto. I read conflicting reports on availability of micro-sims and didn't want to go thru the process of cutting the regular SIM.

Yes in April. AT&T officially allowed to permanently unlock your phones if you fulfilled your 2 year contract. Actually I even got them to unlock a phone i bought thru EBay ...

Samsung S3 is stupidly big, bad ergonomics, Iphone still has the cool factor especially with chicas.

I think get the 5 when it comes out will give you a few months worth of openers before it becomes common.

Just about all large phones have bad ergonomics. And as far as using a cellphone as an opener for a few months? Nah.

How many of you have jailbroken your phones? I've got an iphone 4s and am wondering if it's worth the hassle. It's already unlocked, am specifically thinking about jailbreaking. The main thing I'd like to be able to do is tethering on any network.
