The most beta song on the planet

I didn't go through the whole thread so I apologize in advance if this was already posted. I don't know if the whole song is beta but just the mention of soy latte in a positive light qualifies I think.

The most beta song on the planet

Wanted some music to sing along to while working on the house this past weekend. Came across a playlist of old Chris Isaak songs I hadn't listened to in a long time. Perfect, I thought, as my singing voice is pretty close to his.

Wasn't long before I started to notice the first time just how cringey the lyrics to every one of his songs are. Each song on his first four or five albums employs one or more common themes:

- Oneitis and pedestalization
- He feels guilty for cheating on her
- He forgives her for cheating on him
- Begging the girl to come back
- Existential despair over a girl leaving him
- Blaming himself for a girl's fickleness or bad behavior
- Wooing the girl with romantic or chivalrous words or gestures

I was unimpressed.

That said, "Wicked Game" is still one of my all-time favorite songs. I'll grant any singer one mopey heartbreak dirge when it's that well done. But jeez louise, every song?

Chris Isaak sucks indeed. Wicked game certainly has an original and catchy melody, but it's a total wussy song. I prefer the parody of the video:

This guy's voice is so versatile one could think there are few people singing. The lyrics are as beta as it gets. The voice and the presence of the singer brings it even higher on the betaness scale.

Lenny Kravitz - I'll Be Waiting

Refrain:
As long as I'm living, I'll be waiting
As long as I'm breathing, I'll be there
Whenever you call me, I'll be waiting
Whenever you need me, I'll be there

Don't get me wrong. Musically, John Lennon owns.

But there's the small matter of those song lyrics...

I had the misfortune of hearing "Oh Yoko!" once.
It takes beta to a whole other level...

I'd say that Dan Fogelberg gave us some "Red Pill Wisdom" in this song...

"She said she'd married her an architect
Who kept her warm and safe and dry
She would have liked to say she loved the man
But she didn't like to lie"

[I had a woman message me right after her wedding and tell me that she wishes she could have married me]

It's a song about losing his mom to lung cancer. Nothing too beta about that. He would call her from the road while the band was touring and she would drink soy lattes while they spoke.

In an interview with VH1, lead singer Pat Monahan revealed that he wrote this song about the death of his mother. Train released their first album in 1998, and were touring that year when Monahan's mother was dying of lung cancer - she was a heavy smoker. This was before the widespread use of cell phones, and Monahan made many stops to pay phones on the tour to speak with his mom during this difficult time.
