backwards rationalization

backwards rationalization

this is something i've read about on a few game blogs but never really saw any solid examples of it in my own life
until recently that is
an ex of mine is back in touch after her recent relationship ended
long story short is she was big into me (and me into her too) until i discovered she had a slew of past lovers and flings longer than my arm and had done every deviant act you care to think of
cue massive insecurity from me and a few months later, we're done
and this was due to (in her words) "my massive insecurities"
so at this stage, no hamster at work, just logic (unusual for a woman, i know)
a few years later and the script has changed, now it's because "the chemistry just wasn't right between us"
my first reaction is shock, cos this woman is intelligent and this is the least intelligent and most illogical thing i think i've ever heard from her
most of the time (aside from the final month or so) we were at it like rabbits so to cite lack of chemistry as the reason, is laughable

but it really brought home to me how women (in most cases) have no idea why they are or are not attracted to a man, apart from glib or surface observations, but this is the hamster in full effect, her justifying and rationalizing as best she can, why she let a good man(with too many beta-tendencies) go
backwards rationalization my friends

any of you got any examples of backwards rationalization in action?

You have a good idea, but all rationalization is by definition backwards, reinterpreting past facts to minimize their collision with present morals or thoughts. You can't rationalize future feelings or have sour grapes for something that you haven't experienced yet.
