Moema and Itaim are close to each other, both are airport zones. Itaim it's better than Moema and has a lot of bars in Av. Brigadeiro Faria Lima, all good ones, with hot girls and boys, good for week game.

Deixa que essa fase é passageira, amanhã será melhor você vai ver a cidade inteira seu samba saber de cor!

Dude I´m portuguese so I know a litle about the language. And I´ve lived in Madrid for 6 months so I also now spanish.
Of course the languages are different, and the way people speak it it´s also different but I can assure that if I speak slow portuguese (from Portugal) most spanish will understand me and vice versa. When I lived in Madrid I was seeing a german girl that often visited me. She lived in lisbon so she spoke razoably portuguese. When she visited me in Madrid I gave her the advice above and it worked for her. I didn´t read it on a book or hear it on a class, it was just empirical observation. But your right though I should have written:

Portuguese is quite near Spanish, you just have to talk slower and change the sssssss by the chhee, to make any portuguese understand you. I´m not talking about writting a novel, just plain conversational level.

When I went to Madrid I didn´t spoke any spanish, only portuguese, I didn´t made any language course (cause I got there late) and yet I´ve passed a number of disciplines in university and my course demanded good knowledge of spanish.
There are many differences between portuguese and spanish, but so as portuguese (Portugal) and portuguese (Brazil). Hell even inside Portugal you have different words for the same thing but that doesn´t make me not understand portuguese spoken in any part of Portugal.

I realize this might be an old thread, but couldn't help comment on a couple of things:

Pepini,
what you're saying about Portuguese and Spanish being the same might apply to Continental Portuguese (the one spoken in Portugual), but definitely not to Brazilian Portuguese. Continental Portuguese (or Portuguese in short) and Brazilian Portuguese (Brasileiro in short) are 2 very different languages. Different expressions, different words, different ways to express oneself in each of them and definitely different accent. Big freaking time!

"Foste a casa do teu primo?".
See, that's what I'm saying. In Portugual, that may be what you guys use, but in Brasil? Hell no! No one is going to use "foste". In Brasil, they'll say:
"Foi na casa do teu/seu primo?"

Now, the "s" being pronounced "shhh" that you guys in Portugual are so fond of. LOL The s is being pronunced "shhh" mainly in Rio, but the way the Cariocas use it is quite nice, soothing and sexy, unlike the Portuguese.
When I listen to Portuguese people speaking Portuguese, I have a real hard time understanding them, while this is not the case in Brasil or with Brasilians. Even where I live, I know some Portuguese cool cats but when they speak Portuguese, I can barely understand them, while with Brasileiros, no problem. So much that nowadays, when someone asks me if I speak Portuguese, I reply "I don't speak Portuguese, but I do speak Brazilian Portuguese".

Oh here's a cool line I've been using in Brasil with a lot of success with everyone, is when someone asks me whether I speak Portuguese, I tell them "não falo português, mas falo Brasileiro". And watch them lit up and I earn good browny points with the girls and get lots of kudos from the guys. So try it too. [Image: smile.gif]

I agree much more with Pepini, no matter the differences in different parts, the language remains Portuguese and they can understand each other as much as a native spanish speaking has no problem in other romanic language countries.
You just have to adpat your ear, change a few pronounciations and there you go.

I do that with portuguese, italian, galllego, catalan...etc there is very little problem.
Would be the same for a swedish understanding each other with a dane, they have talk more patiently, but they can understand each other.

Doesn't happen the same with german and its dialects, though, you will understand very little of the different dialects in any region, even if you speak proficient Standard Deutsch.

Dude there´s no such thing as Brazilian (portuguese) language, as there is no Argentinian language or Australian language or even American language. There´s only one language in Portugal and Brazil: Portuguese.

What definitely exists is dumb people who will not make an effort to understand each other.

Portuguese will understand Brazilian speaking portuguese perfectly. When I was litle my grandmother used to see soap operas from Brazil.
If you think that 60 year old women can understand Brazilians speaking portuguese you realize that the idea of two separate languages is absurd.

I was in Brazil for two weeks and spoke with cab drivers, waiters, doctors, etc and everybody understood us perfectly. The only incident I remenber was this Brazilian dude saying he would only speak with us in English after he found out we were portuguese. After half an hour the idiot was already speaking portuguese.

The fact that Brazilians talk about a Brazilian language instead of Portuguese as more to due with other factors (racism, etc) besides language differences.

If you learn portuguese you can understand spanish and italian. You will have to make an effort to learn french.
When I was 15 me and my brother (both withouth any knowledge of italian) spoke with a italian guy for 4 hours about soccer on a train ride from Pisa to Milano. At the time he said that the problem with Portuguese national soccer squad was our coach. He was right then and he´s still right now.

Hey Kindredspirit, you still around,

It's important to be able to spot the social group your girl belongs to -- i.e. learn to spot an intellectual artist type looking for a cultured guy vs a party girl looking for flash and fun vs a true mercenary type gold digger after your money (or perceived money)....not always easy in the beginning when every other girl looks HOT and you're still adjusting to Eastern Europe beauty standards.

Any tips on how to spot them out?

I'm in my 30s and packed my my bags full of condoms, a laptop, and what I thought at the time to be fashionable clothes, and headed for foreign lands in search of the international playboy lifestyle.

It's been over 6 years now that I've been out of the US and thankfully, I've managed to throw my baggy jeans and shirts from JCrew and The Gap into the dumpster, expand my e-business enough to get out of debt and give my life a bit of luxury, and most importantly, meet and bed dozens upon dozens of women whose quality exceed anything I ever got in the U.S.

My game was literally non-existent when I departed from the US, and in those early days, I pounded any decent looking girl who'd spread her legs for me, including the occasional whore in Brazil when I needed to bust a nut.

Being in South America without any local contacts whatsoever wasn't easy. So I ended up teaching myself the local lingo, carpet bombing women in different cities and regions via Internet dating sites, calculating which city/region yielded the greatest hits, then moving my ass that area to meet up with women who seemed interested.

Yeah, I was a chump, but it did give me a chance to travel throughout South America and meet the occasional hottie to unleash my pent up sexual energy into. I'm reminded of Flavia, a law student from Parana of primarily German descent, who moaned oh so softly as I thrust into her like a jackhammer every night....sweet memories.

From South America, I made my way to Europe, spending some years in Old Europe and improving my game. Having roughed it through South America and done extensive travels throughout Asia in my younger years allowed me to have a bit more of a worldly perspective...and it played well with the local girls. It's easier to game non-English speaking girls in English, and I took advantage, laying everything from students to professional women to billionaire heiresses from Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Belgium, and the UK.

I set up an outpost in Eastern Europe, soon realizing that hotties from this region made Western European girls look like...well, American girls (who make my dick go limp faster than a gay porno nowadays). Russians, Lithuanians, Estonians and others were soon added as notches on my bedpost and I continue 'till today...spending copious amounts of time in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and now, Asia...enjoying what life has to offer.

I'd be glad to trade notes and insights with well-travelled guys from this forum.
