^The grain-foods are filler.

You're correct about other contributing factors. There's "eating meat" and there's "eating steroid laden anti-biotic ridden pharma-burgers while sitting on your ass 14 hours a day and sleeping the rest."

Obviously the problem is that when you're poor the filler tends to outweigh the good stuff. It took me several years to realise that I didn't need to fill up my plate with rice if I could afford more meat and vegetables, and the outcome for my health was massive.

Same goes for wheat products. I used to use one (small) can of tuna over two sandwiches. Now I just make one larger sandwich with the same can and if I get hungry later just crack another can and do the same.

Miraculously when you stop eating the filler you stop needing the filler. Westerners pump their stomachs full of shit desperately looking for nutrients that aren't there. The result is a larger stomach and a larger appetite. Anyone over 25 in Australia would be well aware of the good ol' food pyramid, that instructed us from the time we could read that you need to eat approximately 100 bowls of cereal and pasta a day. A coincidence, surely, that wheat was a common crop in our nation.

The truth is that the powers that be love a population that's slumped under the yoke of the grain industry. Excessive amounts of grain foods make us weak, stupid and sap our testosterone levels.

To my mind/body the balance found in most common types of sushi is about right. When I eat that stuff I don't feel burdened in the gut and it all processes rather nicely.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

^Certain cultures have been eating peasant food for hundreds of years because they were dead poor peasants and that was what kept them alive. Beyond that, they could be easily taxed in such commodities. Try taxing a guy in chickens or eggs rather than sacks of rice. Not easy.

Nutrition until recently was entirely based around a peasant/lord economy. It had nothing to do with health and well being.

I guarantee you that a billionaire with a team of nutritionists and chefs is not eating much wheat, corn or rice.

Great for keeping the workers alive, just barely. No so great for optimal health.

Lets also not forget the holy grail of reasons, cost:yield. Wheat, corn, rice, soy, are all low cost and high yield and as part of their yield produce widely used by-products which get resold and used as filler and additives for nearly everything we injest.

Leonard I think we more or less agree. A person eating a modest amount of rice in an otherwise healthy and balanced diet/lifestyle can still turn out quite healthy. That is very different to someone gorging themselves on huge volumes of rice, bread and pasta all day while eating very few vegetables and not much quality meat. Absolutely the old food pyramid was industry created propaganda. There are certain tribes that are very healthy on the back of carbohydrate heavy diets but they are eating higher quality unprocessed carbs, have low calorie intake, are doing huge amounts of physical activity, and have very natural fresh organic food. That is very different to a couch potato eating large amounts of mass produced supermarket bread, oats, etc.

The quality of food (e.g. fresh organic vs GMO pesticide laden), the way foods are prepared and the combinations of food eaten, the amount of food eaten, the amount of exercise, etc are all variables that need to be taken into account. You have to look at the overall picture.

Its overly simplistic to say rice = bad, meat = good. Rice or any grains are indeed sub-optimal foods but if you get the overall picture right you can still be very healthy whilst regularly eating rice or corn or potatoes, etc. I think you already realize that and we are more or less on the same page.

Eggs are cheap and nutritious, can be prepared many ways to avoid boredom. Scrambled, sunny-side up, poached, steamed up like Chawanmushi, omelette with any ingredients you like.

I started getting eggs directly from a farm, and the taste differenece and consistency is massive. Especially noticeable when fried.

If it's anything like meat, then I suspect the nutrient profile would be better on these eggs too.
