Look up Mantech.com ... I saw six supply tech jobs for Kuwait. Kuwait will always be there. One of the better companies to work for overseas.

I know a dude there making like 70K tax-free w/ free housing. I wouldn't go for that though. Kuwait is boring as fuck.

Jobs in Afghanistan...200K+????

There are also aid worker jobs, not just in Afghanistan, but everywhere.

Jobs are listed on devex.com devnetjobs.org and internationaljobs.org

Tough line to break into, but war zone jobs often go begging. It can be very interesting work.

Large variety of fields - agriculture, economics, statistics. This is mostly for people with graduate degrees.

A funny poem about the work:

The Development Set
by Ross Coggins
"Adult Education and Development" September 1976

Excuse me, friends, I must catch my jet
I'm off to join the Development Set;
My bags are packed, and I've had all my shots
I have traveller's checks and pills for the trots!

The Development Set is bright and noble
Our thoughts are deep and our vision global;
Although we move with the better classes
Our thoughts are always with the masses.

In Sheraton Hotels in scattered nations
We damn multi-national corporations;
injustice seems easy to protest
In such seething hotbeds of social rest.

We discuss malnutrition over steaks
And plan hunger talks during coffee breaks.
Whether Asian floods or African drought,
We face each issue with open mouth.

We bring in consultants whose circumlocution
Raises difficulties for every solution --
Thus guaranteeing continued good eating
By showing the need for another meeting.

The language of the Development Set
Stretches the English alphabet;
We use swell words like "epigenetic"
"Micro", "macro", and "logarithmetic"

It pleasures us to be esoteric --
It's so intellectually atmospheric!
And although establishments may be unmoved,
Our vocabularies are much improved.

When the talk gets deep and you're feeling numb,
You can keep your shame to a minimum:
To show that you, too, are intelligent
Smugly ask, "Is it really development?"

Or say, "That's fine in practice, but don't you see:
It doesn't work out in theory!"
A few may find this incomprehensible,
But most will admire you as deep and sensible.

Development set homes are extremely chic,
Full of carvings, curios, and draped with batik.
Eye-level photographs subtly assure
That your host is at home with the great and the poor.

Enough of these verses - on with the mission!
Our task is as broad as the human condition!
Just pray god the biblical promise is true:
The poor ye shall always have with you.

You couldn't get me on a plane for that much. Not for the long hours, politics, and insane commute everyday. Was there making 2x that much and it wasn't worth it in the end. There are some thirsty simps in the workforce. Not the guy just getting started and needs to gain experience, but those that have accepted massive pay reduction for the same work. Fuck that. A lot of that comes from thirsty Euro's willing to work for peanuts, which none of their cowardly asses ever picked up an gun to fight for anyone, but are all about being a war profiteer.

Some of the aviation related contractors working in the middle east that I'm aware of:

Midwest

KBR

Serco (Middle East)

Dyncorp

Washington Consulting Group (WCG)

Of those, I've had friends work for Midwest and Serco with good reviews. I've heard awful things about KBR's working conditions and HR issues. Pretty severe ones.

The aviation jobs typically pay WELL over $100k annually and I believe the contract they have states that if you spend at least 6 (?) months overseas while working, then up to $90k of your income is NON-TAXABLE.

These positions are all VERY competitive.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for a living? I find your stories interesting and curiosity arises.

My guess, electrician or infantry in the Marines and carried those skills into contracting.

I worked with the highest end equipment in the Marines, but stayed in infantry units. "Grunt Tech". Got the best of both worlds, which is why I did so well in contracting. When you are boots on ground, units like to know who has their back. It's a respect issue, and as contracting got worse, units held that respect.
