Question for people with 2 Passports......

Lets say you have a US and French Passport...., When you travel to Europe do you depart US on French passport and enter Europe on French passport and come back to US using US Passport ?

Is it considered Illegal to use two Passports on the same trip ?

I'm worried about Portugal and Greece getting out of the Eurozone . If that happens, all the time and money that I spent to get my Portuguese passport will mean shit...just a worthless piece of paper.

No need to worry about them leaving the EU. The more likely event is that they get kicked out of the Euro, but that would still leave them in the EU. The likelihood of Portugal being kicked out of the EU is close to zero right now. If that were to happen there would be bigger things to worry about.

I present the home passport wherever I am. When I arrive in the EU, they only see my British, when I arrive in the States, they only see my US.

Wouldn't it be easier to go to some of the poorer countries in the EU and find a wife on paper. I am sure for a couple of thousand euro you could get this done, I use to know a lawyer who was arranging it for Asians in London for about 7000 pounds. Funny enough the girls that were using to marry were Polish girls.

You can also do this in the Caribbean. I have a contact in St. Maarten who can make some intros in this regard. Not a bad place to lay low while some paperwork is getting processed. St. Maarten is an island divided into two halves (one French, one Dutch). Fully EU member state.

Panama is also a good option if you want a passport as a security measure. It's easy to obtain & the country offers great company structures & bank infrastructure.

I know a few people doing this. Asian and UK passport.

I am wondering which ones are easy to get cheaply and then have good benefits?

It seems like Belgium is the most practical since it gives you access to the EU.

So let's say I wanted to do it. What's the next step... contact a Belgian immigration lawyer?

You would have to live there for three years and I am assuming speak proficient French (enough to hold interview). Lately because of the power the EU is gaining, it has forced countries to make naturalization harder to ward of boatloads of immigrants. I am working on my French passport now and its rules state 5 years continuous stay and a deep understanding of French and the culture (from oral and written exams). The easiest EU passport is through the country you wouldn't mind spending a few years in and be willing to learn the language.

French or Flemish (most Belgians speak Flemish). And you have to live 3y in the country, which means you'll have to work (or start your own company). Marriage could be an option to, but a little hard on your lifestyle [Image: smile.gif]

The language classes are actually free. I know 2 people (1 American & 1 Brazilian) who started a company in Belgium, and received visa's which allowed them to stay & travel around in Europe without any problem. 1 company actually does something, the other has 0 figures.

Starting up a company is easy, cheap and goes fast, 2 days max.

You can have a dual passport citizenship (as I have).

Do you have a link? I'd like to know how to get into them.

A woman offered me money to marry her sister in the past. She wanted to live in Europe and I have an EU passport. I declined.

I wonder if it is possible to find a woman to be a wife on paper to get my US passport...however, marrying an american woman scares the shit out of me!

You are supposed to have 1 passport at hand when you travel but, unless you go through customs and they see both you won't run into problems.

Good article MikeCF, thanks for posting it. I toyed in the past with obtaining the Brasilian passport and I may still get it in the future as it's a place I can see myself spend a considerable amount of time in the near future for both biz and fun. No place on earth like Brasil.
The singaporean citizenship is one I'm very interested in. I will register a company there when I return to Asia and I will look very closely at obtaining a citizenship there. Belgian is a good one tough. For the Israeli tough, unless one is jew, I see absolutely not the slightest reason to get it. IMO, you'd be crazy to get one as it comes with more, way more downsides and restrictions than benefits.

Cool.

So you enter Canada with the Canadian Passport?

And then enter the US with the US Passport?

If so, the Canadians never ask you for your US stamp and vice versa?

(I hope this wasn't confusing).

I will usually just pick the passport I am going to use ahead of time i.e. if I'm going to Cuba (I haven't but just example) I would obviously bring my Canadian passport. The only time when I bring both is when I am traveling between Canada and US. When I get my French passport in a year I will be doing the same may actually not even carry US.

There is no real benefit of traveling with a lot of passports unless you want to be in the native line at customs in the airport.

So will you use which ever one "on the fly" with the shorter line?

Pretty much I was in the airport this week London to San Francisco and the line for foreigners was shorter so I used it and was out probably 20 minutes quicker than if I was an "American" at customs.
