I worked out theabove nugget of info because i landed in medellin
just after new year last year and immediately noticed something not right. Spoke to a a barnan who has hooked me up before, and he practically marched me on to a the station to go to cartagena.

Stands to reason though. Cities in term time, holiday resorts in break time.

I actually hate Colombia. I grew up here and has been brutal to me, but I understand why you all love it and I'm thankful you make good name of it. GM, the best time is around June-July-August. Aim for the Flower Fair (it's just a bunch of drinking, really) but arrive a lot earlier, because the flights get full before it.

From your picture, I take you live between Patiobonito and EAFIT. It's a very good spot to live. Medellin is not dirt cheap when it comes to anything, specially not where you live. I hope you enjoy your stay. Two tips to take from OP : Barrio Colombia is sketchy as hell, and also some clubs have a No-Gringo rule. You won't fly solo there or with another foreigner. You need a Colombian girl to get in nowadays. Try instead Envigado, going down south, you will be surprised. Lleras was good 5 years ago but it's getting full of scammers, yet it's still worth a go. Try Rio Sur and La Strada if you are ready to spend. Don't go to Envy unless you want to see your wallet cry. Have fun!

On the December-January vacation season, I would recommend the north coast, Cartagena, Santa Marta or Coveñas. The whole big cities go there to have fun, taking 13-hour road trips just to get there. Starting January also, the Corralejas take place in pretty much every medium-sized town in the coast area.
After that, around the end of February, and sometimes the beginning of March, there is the Barranquilla carnival. Costeñas are not my type of women but if you feel like, the carnival is just one huge party.
After that, until July, you can pretty much go anywhere. One good idea is Pereira, whose girls are the biggest sluts in Colombia. Medellin is also good around that timeframe. Cali maybe, but that city is one huge mess along with Bogota.
Around the end of July there is the flower fair in Medellin. It's a must go, however, locals expect foreigners already on the fair. 8 years ago you could have slept with 6 women on one day just from the color of your passport, but you can still have better leverage than a local just from being foreign, so take my advice and come.
There are random fairs and events around the country between August and December, but because of regionalism and tech ignorance in most colombian places, its very hard for a region to know the events of another one ( Bogota vs Medellin, Cali vs Medellin). So between that timeframe, you can go anywhere and still have fun and maybe, you can find something interesting.

Ok so update... Girls are really friendly but flakey like everyone seems to state. The girl I met the first night flaked on me two nights ago but then wrote a message saying she was sorry and she was sick (Uh huh). But she definitely seems into me and seems to want to meet up again. Last night I met another girl but didn't even bother to get her number because she wasn't that great looking, just the best option that was single. Lleras really isn't as bad for picking up at night as I've read. You just have to stay away from the bars where people are sitting down in groups. It costs about $15 to get in but you can drink free until 1:30 as well, so it's not a bad deal. It does seem near impossible to get a one night stand here in Colombia though. You really got to get numbers here and follow up. If you don't like dating and just want one night stands, do not come to Colombia. Discotecas seem to be the easiest place to pick up at night.

My roomate, the older man, straight up kills it here. Him and all his older buddies have multiple girlfriends, and they are good looking. The one he brought out last night was 25, and he's gotta be in his late 50's early 60's. He meets a lot of these girls on Latinamericancupid.com. This seems to be the place to be if you are an older man looking for younger women. The quality of women here is real good. Probably close to on par with Miami. Where are you staying? Are you renting from the older guy?

I have thought about renting rooms to guys that come to Cali. I enjoy the company.... But I hate the distraction of other people in the house when I bring a girl home for the first time.

Yeah, my opinion has changed after going out on the weekend. There's a lot of talent walking around. I tell you what too, hotels are a pretty good place to meet Colombian girls as well. One other thing I'll add is the food is not very good. It's not terrible, but it's not good. The burgers SUCK, haven't tried the pizza yet. It's also pretty expensive in Lleras, but I found a place down the street from my place where I can get a sandwich for about 3 or 4 bucks. The steak is ok, nothing to write home about. The food at the store for the most part is pretty similar to US prices. Some things are a little cheaper (avacados are about $.75, fuck yeah!). To be honest, the Colombian food I had in the states has been better so far the the Colombian food I've had here. The food doesn't compare to Brazil by a long shot. At least the drinks are pretty cheap. I love that you can drink on the street, but I'm pretty sure you can do that about anywhere in latin america.

I am, at least I arrived here solo, he's just a kid a met a couple days ago. Cool cat from Michigan. He can pull too. He's at least gotten a make out and number every night I've been out with hi.
