Driver's license required for over the counter cold medicine
02-13-2012, 09:52 PM
So I'm not feeling so great this time of year. I hate the winter. I just stopped by my local CVS pharmacy to pick up some cold medicine. All the good stuff that actually works isn't on the shelf. It's replaced with cards as placeholders. So I take one to the pharmacy counter and I'm asked to show my driver's license ...for cold medicine!! They scan my license along with the card and tie it all together into my purchase. Evidently it's federal law.
I know this is nothing new. I go through it every winter. Just one more annoying thing about the US that I wanted to put out there.

Yea it is pretty annoying, but if there's one thing I absolutely despise, it's meth heads.

There are also purchasing limits.
If you buy too many boxes, you'll be arrested for intent to manufacture meth.
I used to have boxes of the stuff lying around - one at the office, one at home, one in the car. Same thing with chap stick, eye drops, cough drops, and any other number of things that make minor annoyances like colds more bearable.
Now, I have to really keep track of the box, or else risk getting arrested.

The problem is you don how may boxes you can buy safely - it could be 3, or maybe 4, and on the 5th - BAM - sheriff at your door at 4:00am to arrest you!
Fucking bullshit!

Honestly, if you have a cold, you shouldn't need more than a couple of boxes of medicine anyway. I recall this happening in reverse - with Claritin, the allergy medication. Every few years, I start to get bad hay fever symptoms. I always hated Benadryl, because it makes you drowsy. Claritin used to be behind the counter/prescription, but was reduced to over-the-counter. There used to be those place cards, now it's right out on the shelves. I don't know if CVS has done this nationwide with cold medicine, because my local CVS still has the cold meds out on the shelves. Maybe it's in certain areas where they have issues with meth labs springing up.

Yet people kill themselves with pain killers and Xanax everyday.

Nothing deteriorates a human being quicker than meth. First, it chemically reacts with your tooth enamel and immediately rots out your teeth (it's the most obvious indicator of meth use). As with the pics above, the face/skin shows quick deterioration. It, much like crack, is fast addicting, but meth breaks you down even more quickly. You don't want any drug dealer as a neighbor, but having a meth lab presents a different danger all together.
