I tried 50mg Zinc Picolinate and 2mg Copper (separarely) for many months. No idea if this is helping at all but I take it just for balance and to prevent deficiencies of either.
If I am having this salt every morning, is it worth taking a potassium supplement? I work on a ship where getting it from food can be challenging more often than not.
I think I found out why you're having fatigue though I am no doctor and take my advice with a pinch of salt. Please consult a professional doctor if you can.
Your working environment plays a major role and has changed your body reaction so the first thing is to listen to your body and makes some changes as you see fit. The advice for sleep in this thread is spot-on.
Reg. supplements, I gather that zinc and copper supplements are good for the body but they should not be taken together and only with a time gap. There is no optimal ratio of zinc to copper as absorption rates differ in individuals. The body needs copper to metabolise zinc so it will leach out copper from the body deposits to help in this. I don't know the brand you're taking or what it contains but your concentration seems to be not working for you.
You can take the salt in the morning but do be aware that your body may shift towards one mineral (sodium here) and cause other symptoms due to the absence of others (potassium, magnesium etc..) if you don't consume meals with those minerals. The key is always moderation with food and supplements and it is not easy to achieve in most cases including yours as well.
Of all the above mineral electrolytes, potassium is key and the one needed in large quantities because of the sodium-potassium pump. Your body uses ⅓ rd of your energy from food for this pump to function properly in the cells. The pump is needed to exchange and transport glucose, amino acids across all cells to get energy, body fluid retention and transport calcium and magnesium for absorption by the cells.
You have mentioned that you work on a ship so I have no idea of your diet and what you eat.
So I would recommend the following:
1) buy a bottle of Braggs ACV and take it first thing in the morning with this mix - 1-2 tsps of Braggs with 300ml pure water and a dash of lime juice, cayenne pepper, cardamom powder and ginger powder (¼ tbsp each). I do this every morning on an empty stomach and you will feel an energetic kick because of the pepper.
2) when you are off work in your rotation, increase your intake of vegetables or fish in the food so that you can get some additional minerals and vitamins from your diet and then use the supplements to augment the dosage.
The reason I put ACV above is that the acetic acid makes your body acidic by changing the body pH, which helps the sodium potassium pump to function correctly and flush out toxins. Also, adrenal pressure through work stress causes you to lose hydrogen ions and potassium, which makes your blood alkaline so ACV helps to regulate this.
Potassium supplements are good but the dosages are typically low and you need to augment with vegetables. For magnesium, take green vegetables, almonds, bananas, cashews etc.. while one can tomatoes, nuts, wholegrain, green vegetables for potassium.
Please remember that it takes quite some time for the body to react and change so you should start seeing good results if you continue for 2-3 weeks.
I realised that I have derailed this thread by going off in an another direction so apologies to that but it is important to understand the other factors that are causing these issues for you and fix them first as I believe that the adrenal issue is only causative from the main issues you're facing.
As indicated above, please consult a professional doctor to get the right advice. I am only giving from my view, which may or may not work for you.
