Vikernes is a genuine psychopath. He talks about the murder as if it was any other day in his life. No emotional response to memories of stabbing a man to death.

He was charged with murder but he has always maintained that it was self defense - because the guy was telling people that he was going to torture varg and film it. Seems outrageous, but the guy (Euronymous) made necklaces out of chips of the skull of his fellow band mate who had committed suicide.
If that guy was making threats to kill you.. What do you do? Wait for him? I don't know - obviously there are better ways to handle things, but in that sub culture they don't stand down from violence.
