In a serious move, Google is signaling that it will begin scrubbing its search results based on adherence to leftist dogma. Considering that most of you found me, or a blog related to me, through a search on game or travel, this will make it harder for men to find us.

The weird thing about censorship is that the avowed targets are rarely if ever affected by it; either the Comstockian efforts miss it completely, the censors let the worst offenses pass, or the ideas find new avenues and survive. Censorship of this sort is really just Google announcing to the world, 'I'm impotent as Hugh Hefner, but I'll buy a motorbike and act tough so nobody believes it.'
If print was the medium for ideas deemed offensive and a magazine or publishing house refused to give you a channel? Hell, start a zine.
While the internet is the medium, Bing, Gab.ai, Vimeo etc are going to offer stiff competition and will welcome traffic that the mainstream sites don't allow. Google is going to do a Twitter-crash.
And there's going to be a market for offensive truths, because every area of opnion is getting more and more polarised-not just politics, religion and sex, but medicine, business, language, law.

So it just gets a flag/label? That will just drive kids towards that kinda stuff. Anything I was told I shouldn't look at as a kid just made me more curious. People like the "forbidden fruit".
Besides, this is only gonna hurt Google. The next step is them outright censoring or banning content which will drive users elsewhere. I hate to use that old hippie saying but...."you can't ban ideas man!"

As I understand the article this pertains to Google's internal "content reviewers", and their deeming something offensive will have the effect of pushing it way down the line in the search reaults. So, some Berkeley grad who landed their "dream job" at Google will come across a writeup on how to maximize your notches during a layover in Belgrade (misogynist and rapey), or how to get to a body weight bench press (toxic masculinity), how to reload your own .30-06 (only a lone wolf white nationalist would think of doing this), or discussing the challenges faced by inner city youth raised by single mothers (white privilege/racist dog whistle), and flag it as potentially triggering, thereby moving down further from the top search hits that sufficiently toe the party line. It all takes place behind the scenes, and there won't be any indication that something has been deemed deplorable to 2017's sensibilities.
Just my read as a completely non-technologically inclined layman.

I doubt it'll mean much action is taken against genuine extremists, because social media in general is pretty lazy about that (how many ISIS-controlled Twitter accounts, again?) but people may realise that Google's business model is not optimal for everyone, as indeed it's not. Free speech that you can't sell ad space in
is never going to be an option for Google, and now that they've shown that they can't be trusted to police their own pages, conventional businesses and non-mainstream publishers will take their content elsewhere.

So far as Facebook is concerned, that actually is the case. I don't use Facebook, and I don't direct others to it. My life is a shitload simpler as a result. I don't work in a job that requires a Facebook account, and I wouldn't apply for any job that asks or even hints that it looks at your Facebook page as part of the selection process.
With Google it's a bit harder obviously, but the good news is that this does nothing but damage to Google in the long run, because it increasingly opens the way for competitors. Discrimination is its own punishment, as Milton Friedman said, and this is discrimination. Those who are on the normie farm are likely to stay there until they get burned by Normie Inc., and once they are, they'll go looking for the forbidden fruit whether it's on Google or elsewhere.
