After upgrading my phone I found myself more distracted lately. I started thinking: these are tools that should be working for me, not against me.

So, I've had to consciously restructure my day to make tech useful instead of a time waster.
Some specific, practical tips:

1. Leechblock- Firefox add on that you can set to block websites at certain times or after x minutes. I blocked porn and even search engines after time limits. My work time is much more productive.

2. Using youtube to find new motivating music for workouts instead of endless clips. Using the online radio function to get news and podcasts in audio form so I can get a good walk instead of reading news sites.

3. Sending out specific, targeted business building marketing instead of mindlessly clicking on low paying, time wasting project or interview offers.

4. Reading PDF files with new language, technical, or skill knowledge on public transfer instead of mindless browsing.

5. Tech free evenings. I take a break to hang out with friends and girls without distractions.

Post your own tips on time savers and useful tech tools, I'd love to learn more ways to go about it.

Go back to reading books. I read the first 2 books of "Winchester Undead" on Saturday. A much more satisfying way to spend my day that getting dragged into Gab.ai.

The map function is too useful on my smartphone.

Completely disable the email.

iPhone: Tap Settings > General > Restrictions
Create a random Restrictions passcode, write it down on paper.
Forget the passcode
Disable safari/dowloading new apps/ etc

Android:

Settings->Users->Add user or profile->Restricted profile
Create random passcode, write it down on paper.
Forget the passcode
Disable web browsers and others

Have a friend help write the passcode if you are too good at remembering it [Image: smile.gif]

I like to leave a radio app enabled, maps, and messaging apps (Viber, whatsapp, etc).
Now my smartphone is useful instead of a time waster.
