This thread made me think things in a different way and gave up on the idea of "completing" races

Marathon training - Dickerstaff1 - 06-18-2016

So I finished the race with a disappointing time of 2:07. I almost drowned at one point and was gasping for air and I was looking for something to cling to dear life to. I saw a floating milk jug that I thought was a buoy of some sort and I swam to it. Turned out to just be an empty milk jug. I was panicking and was looking for a kayak to come rescue me when I realized that I could just barely touch my feet. I caught my breath and finished the swim and started the bike ride.

I just borrowed the bike from my friend yesterday and didn't really ride it. For the first 1/3rd of the biking portion i was in the lowest gear and was pedalling as fast as I could and wasn't gaining traction. I had no idea how to change the gears on one of these road bikes and stopped and asked someone. I assumed he would know as these are bike people. He didn't. So I continued going at a snails pace getting passed by everybody. Finally a 300 poudn old man cruised by telling me "good race". That was the last straw. I caught up with him and asked how to change the gears. He told me and ate my dust. I flew the rest of the way.

I could've knocked at least 10-15 minutes off the bike portion if I wasnt an idiot. I obviously could've been much more prepared, but it was worth while. Don't know if I'm gonna do another one of these, but there is a kayak, bike, run. That sounds like fun.

At least you got a great story to tell out of it. Glad you didn't get injured.

I saw this dicumentary the other day, highly recommended

Running this race would be a once in a lifetime achievement

I haven't ran since monday cause my foot was starting to hurt a bit, i decided i was gonna go a bit faster on a 5k run today since i was gonna be fresh from the brake. Couldn't run more than 2.5 km at 4:30 min/km pace. [Image: confused.gif]

Then i tried intervals for the first time in my life and ended up doing an 89 seconds 400m. I couldn't even finish my second interval cause apparently the garmin starts beeping a few times before you get to the actual 400m.

Running is definitely more difficult than i thought.
