Question for you MAC experts - Dash Global - 06-01-2011

Planning on getting a 15' macbookpro. Question is should I get the cheaper one and just add RAM / Memory if I need it later or just buy the more expensive model?

I only really use my laptop for surfing web, downloading music & movies, and editing some lil home movie clips ect.

What yall think?

If thats all youre using it for you can damn for sure just use a souped up macbook. I bought a 17" macbook pro last year purely on impulse and use it for nothing more than the above mentioned reasons and kick myself everyday. If youve got the money why the hell not but you definitely dont NEED the pro.

Ok just looked at the macbook and I dont like the all white design.

Think I might just go with the 13' pro. Dont feel like dropping almost 2 G's for the added 2 inches lol

By far the best thing you can do to boost performance is to get an SSD (solid state harddrive) in there. It does costs quite a bit extra, but if you have the money it's well worth it. A lot of the time you spend waiting for the machine to load is when it's reading something off the (slow) disk. It also makes the machine more resilient since there are no moving parts in the harddrive.

But really, any spec they have will be good enough for basic use.

I have the 13" MacBook Pro, and I just use it for the same things that you do. I got it nearly two years ago, and it has been great. You won't need to add any RAM or anything else.

I have the older all titanium looking 17' pro. It has to be going on 5+ years now and I haven't had one single problem with it. (I did have to replace the battery.)

It is a tough call, I would look at it more from a perspective of time. I am pretty sure that the base line model that was out when I bought mine would not be cruising along as well as mine is now.

Do they not make the regular in black anymore? My friends got a 13 macbook in black that looks great.

Black or their usual Aluminium-Grey one?

Moreover, should I buy Macbook Pro this year or should I wait for next year?
Heard that there might be a few changes etc.

I've been using my 13 inch Mac Book Pro over here in Afghanistan for the last 7 months and it's held up just fine. Some of the Windows based computers have crashed because of viruses. It's from getting movies off of other peoples hard drives. I have had no issues. I plan on getting the 17 inch Mac Book Pro when I get home.

I think im just gonna get the base 13 MBP and add extra RAM and an SSD through amazon or something. much cheaper than getting it from Apple
